Congratulations Michail Antonio
Antonio is now West Ham's second highest goal scorer in the Premier League, with 42 Premier League goals. He is now only 5 goals behind Paolo Di Canio (47).

What a great goal scorer Antonio has become for us.

Being out of shape can lead to injuries.

Sven, Hartson scored 9 goals in 16 games the season the season Wimbledon went down. So I think it's more that he was injured a log.

Re: Congratulations Michail Antonio
Hartson himself admitted that the season he scored heavily in the first half that when he got to the turn of the year he reckoned he had done enough and relaxed.
By the time we came to sell him he was overweight and contributing a lot less ..... & £7.5m was a decent fee in those days.
We did actually sign DiCanio around the same time and when he made his debut off the bench at Selhurst against Wimbledon we GLEEFULLY sung Big Fat Johnny Hartson at our former player.
The good news is that fee over stretched Wimbledon and when Hartson failed they were relegated and went out of business.

My God, this thread is fucking depressing.

It takes me back to one of the low points in supporting West Ham, when we had a super firing Johnny Hartson up top, the League tip scorer and a player who had almost single handedly kept us up the previous season and we sold him to fucking WIMBLEDON for seven and a half million pounds

Regardless of what happened next to poor old JH, it showed the scale of our ambition back then and have we really changed since?

In the 80's owning a club was a vanity project. Every club not regularly winning cups except one lost money. One club bucked the trend however due to their exceptionally loyal fans and has always been a way to print money however shit the team they've put out.

THAT is the West Ham way. Our fans are mugs and shamefully I am one of them.

Scott, we brought in a bunch of right wingers we didn't need. Remember Gokhan Tore and Sofiane Feghoulie?

Hartson wasted some of his best years in the Scottish league.

WHUDeano,

I don't know if Bilic genuinely thought that Antonio's best position would be RB or, as usualy we became so exposed with the transfer window shut that we needed to find a RB and he though Antonio would be a decent option.

Either way, it weakened 2 positions as Antonio was becoming a decent Premier League winger who was now playing out of position.

Re: Congratulations Michail Antonio

He scored 24 goals in total for the season but only 15 of those were Premier League Goals and the other 9 were cup goals.

Re: Congratulations Michail Antonio
I still remember many on here were adamant he would be a good striker when he first joined. The argument against was that he didn't have the football brain to convert, but there were many who championed him as a striker. Bilic went the other way and decided he'd be a better right back.

Looking back on it, I wonder whether his non-league background and raw ability contributed to Bilic basically moving him around the pitch like a schoolboy footballer. His next step under Bilic would have been in goal if the Prem ever approved rush goalie.

Top player though, the board need to seriously back Moyes this summer - he knows a system that works and has shown he can spot incredible value in the players that fit into that system. Although I'd argue now that keeping the Rice & Soucek axis together is more important than any positions that need investing in.

No he won't get anywhere near it until he plays well over 100+ games like the 3 players you have mentioned.

Yes, I jumped the gun a bit there and forgot about Noble!

Antonio is now in fact West Ham third highest Premier League goal scorer after Di Canio (47) and Noble (46).

ZERO goals Benrahma won't be getting anywhere near those stats.

Rios - you're right, fella.

I just checked. According to the Premier League's website, Noble has 46 goals and Antonio 42. Di Canio still #1 with 47.

Which means this whole thread has been an over-excited sham and Antonio needs to pull his finger out!

;-)

Only one more?!? It's strange - it's one of those things where the mists of time make me think he must have got 20+ - he seemed to score every week!
