West Ham fans start crowdfunding to buy club crest discarded by owners after Upton Park demolition.
The huge crest proudly hung on the side of West Ham’s beloved old ground before it was demolished. It emerged the badge is sat in storage in Greenhithe, Dartford, and is for sale for less than £9,000.

How it came to be in storage and out of the club’s hands is unknown. But the fact remains the crest was discarded by the club’s hierarchy one way or another ahead of the move to the London Stadium.
West Ham fan group Hammers United alerted the club to the situation.
And they have urged co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold and their vice-chairman Karren Brady to do right by the club’s history and buy it back.
But now a group of West Ham fans have taken matters into their own hands. Because supporters have launched their own Go Fund Me drive to buy it themselves.
“On behalf of the U5’s and the ICF we are raising money to buy back the West Ham crest which used to be in the Booby Moore stand and put it up in the London stadium,” organiser Tony Flukes wrote on the crowdfunding page.
“Calling all West Ham supporters to make this happen… We have to save the crest it’s our history.”
The move will surely put Sullivan and Gold under pressure to intervene.

There’s no way the club threw it away. They auctioned off the fucking toilet door signs FFS.
Either nicked by a contractor, or the guy who bought it has decided he doesn’t want it any more.

Good point. The crest was generally well-liked and they went and changed it anyway, they're only going to look upon reminders of a better time before them with disdain.

I actually think they'd be able to get that done, but why would they do that for what wasn't even our old crest, but the one before that? What about the other 17 or whatever it is?

You can't just put up an enormous sign in the London Stadium, it's only our home for about a month in the year.

They would have sold the bond glue that held this up on a separate lot if they could. These things go to show what little thought or care they have. You’d have incorporated certain items into the makeup of the shit bowl. The gates are plonked in the club shop.
Why not create a museum as a legacy. Charge for entry even and put it towards charities. Honestly a Under 5 yr old could have thought of things to transfer to the stadium.
It goes to show that I was about to write about ‘to carry favour with supporters’. They should want to do things like this. It shouldn’t have to be a PR opportunity. Especially the super fan Gold.

They're saying in the Facebook groups that it was left for the demolition people to take, but I can't believe that GSB wouldn't have sold it in the auction like Ernie says.
Was it on the side of the Bobby Moore when we left? Seems odd that the old old crest would have been up there for so long.
