Anyone had a Bridge done on their Teeth
|
Been googling the different types as I need a bridge for my front tooth which had to be removed.
Anyone had any experience of bridges - the one that's stuck on sounds the least invasive but has anyone had any good/bad experiences?

I've been having quite a bit of work done on what's left of mine. I've got a great private dentist who actually works out cheaper than the NHS when it comes to cosmetic work.
I was embarrassed to smile six months back, my teeth and gums looked so shit. Not quite there yet, as I'm having gum fillings, but the teeth look so much better - thanks mainly to religiously using a good electronic toothbrush.

Having some work done at mo Two old crowns fell out - 12-15 years old - that’s their normal life span apparently
One crown can easily be swapped for new one - 600 quid for new
The other needs implant as root has cracked - so I need extraction, bone and gum rebuild and implant 6000 just for that - ffs - gold old insurance helps
I love teeth - might as have em all out and blend all your food and consume through a straw

I think I'm going for a bridge anyway... implants seem like a very invasive method and as you say with the abscesses may be complications

With an implant you will almost certainly need bone augmentation due to the abscesses.
They use bovine and that will take months
I had a similar problem a root had split on my front tooth which had a crown and metal post from root canal The crack was hairline and so fine couldn't be seen on an x ray. By the time I had it pulled the bone had eroded.
Had mine for 11 years and no problems at all.

I've had my 3 front teeth on a plate for 54 years now (knocked them out aged 13). Was plastic now chrome, never been a great problem.

BJB, sometimes an abscess will leave jawbone damage which either prevents or makes an implant impractical without bone enhancement.

on mine they filed down the teeth either side to a sort of cone shape so the 3 tooth bridge sits over the top. reduced the size of teeth either side by about 10% - wasn't like having two weird pegs either side just slightly smaller teeth

If the rest of your railings at the front are good it seems a shame to whittle down the two teeth either side of the gap in order to fit a bridge. On the other hand an implant involves a process which takes several months to completion.
Go for an implant.

Oh and my tooth has been removed as it was dead and had been root canalled previously (40 yrs ago - been dead for 40 years) then decided to crack vertically during lockdown which then caused a string of abscesses that were treated then a couple of weeks ago the left half of it fell out!

Fraser and Aldgate..
the only Crown versions I've seen online they grind the adjacent teeth down to posts and put whole tooth caps on.
Are you saying they just grind the adjacent teeth down at the back a little to attach/bond the "false" tooth to?
If so that doesn't seem as bad?

kylay - I had my two front teeth (top) done on an implant 30 years ago. I think it was pretty pioneering at the time, was done at Guys teaching hospital and I didn’t pay a penny.... never needed any maintenance, I’ve not even been to a dentist for six years or so.... don’t give them a moment’s thought anymore.
So I’d definitely recommend having an implant.

I've had an implant for my front lower teeth for 20 years. They require maintenance and ain't all they're cracked up to be. When those go I'll probably opt for a bridge as state side the cost is fucking obscene. My wife had one front tooth implant done recently for close to 10k when all was said and done. My dad had a bridge and it never gave him too much trouble.

fraser is right - they grind down the teeth either side of the gap a bit but not down to stumps - more like a core for the new bridge. when the bridge goes over the top you get three perfect teeth for the price of one

Billy - They only use a post if your tooth dies and you have a root canal. They just grind a layer off all around the surface of your tooth and the crown goes on that. The same as having a crown just for aesthetics
