Moyes on Rice & Soucek
|
Moyes in the media saying that we will consider BIG bids for Rice and Soucek.
Obviously I would want to keep both of them but would this be the end of the world IF we reinvested all of the proceeds.
Leicester have built an excellent squad on doing exactly this, selling Mahrez and McGuire for top dollar and reinvesting.

Moyes has built a fine core on a shoestring, but a core is not a squad and a shoestring can only pass through so many lace-holes.

Goes without saying really under GSB. The last thing the owners want is Europe. Even early stages of Champions league cost clubs money to travel. GSB didn't like the cost of a coach to Everton in the cup so Europe? Selling the crown jewels and trouser some cash whilst you can is the way forward for them. The squad is overperforming and fag paper thin. Little to no chance of investment as GSB can't/won't afford it. Their risk is that with additional games and an ageing squad we will struggle to cope, particularly if we get past the early rounds, then GSB will be staring relegation and diminished asset in the face again. So cash in now, try hard in the transfer market, fail dismally, maybe a couple of also rans and hope for the best, their best being mid table mediocrity and out of Europe tout suite. Hopefully I am talking absolute shite and some ambition to capitalise on success will emerge from our boardroom, fucking this suggestion off and complimenting our best players with good progressive signings.

I agree what you say about us sliding down from next season but have to disagree with you about us returning to "mid-table". That would actually not be too bad relatively speaking as we have mostly been lower table and more often in and around relegation since the Sky era began. :-(

That is the owner's business model, so should be no surprise.
They may grudgingly accept minor level European football just this once so they can tick that one off their list of "promises".

The point is we all know that the money generated WONT be fully invested in the squad, so we will sell our best two players buy two average players and return to mid table/relegation fare as before

Any Old Iron 6:56 Mon Apr 5 Re: Moyes on Rice & Soucek I've supported Moyes since he first joined us, but he's bang out of order with these remarks and he should keep these kind of thoughts to himself. He's employed by WHU and I can't for the life of me see how this helps the club
Why? What is so outrageous about saying a club would consider huge bids for their best players? Every club in the world operates in the same manner.
Calm down and dry your knickers you pathetic cunt.

It's difficult when your best players go on international duty and are training and playing alongside other players who are no better than them but are earning more in a week than your player earns in a month. Throw in all the 'chat' about the facilities at their clubs, and the stories of European nights against the really top clubs from abroad, and pretty soon you are struggling to keep your man in the fold. It pains me to say it, but if I was in Rice's position I would exploit my current good form to move on up. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him and Lingard pitch up at Leicester... great facilities, very well run and managed, not too far from their home towns in either case, better T&Cs, and far less likely to suffer the ignomy of bench warming half the games in a big, quality squad rotation.

It’s what is done with the money that is the main concern.
Every penny should go back into the squad.
My moneys on a large sum going into the David’s pockets.

Didn’t he say that he expects bids but he doesn’t have any reason why he has to sell them
Seems straightforward enough to me.
Anyone thinking that him saying this invites bids of him not saying this means nobody will notice Rice and Soucek and won’t bit is just looking for things to get upset about.
One thing is certain. It’s highly unlikely that Rice will do a Noble and be here forever. Let’s just enjoy him and be proud when he goes to Real Madrid and becomes the best midfielder in the world.

Master
How are you managing to compare Reid to Rice and Soucek
the money made from selling rice or soucek will not be fully re-invested into the squad. Maybe half if you are lucky.

Reid is a poor comparison to these two. He was last his best when they handed him the contract taking him to his mid 30s. we have arguably, the best central midfield pair in the league and we now have the manager, who just three months said he was happy with the squad, now advertising for bids. you couldn't make this shit up, but it's a predictable move given the scum that own the club

I wasn't well pleased as it was obvious to me his other offers didn't come to fruition.
He was a decent PL ch nothing more.. Different class, if he was that good he would have got his move.

Everyone on here was well pleased when Reid signed a new deal instead of leaving on a free. Let’s not rewrite history.
He was different class for us and injuries hit him hard unfortunately. You’d make a brilliant manager in hindsight.
