Moyes needs to be given 100 million in the summer
How ever this season ends we have exceeded all expectations. The next phase of the club is going to be crucial.

To keep players such as Rice and Soucek Moyes need to be given serious funds to invest.

Keeping Lingard must be the first priority.

Antonio, as great as he is, isn't capable anymore of playing too many games. Could Moyes do the same with Traore, and turn him into a CF?

A fox in the box would be handy, so Danny Ings?

Dendockner would be another great addition and give us cover for Rice.

And then maybe a punt on a couple of promising lower leaguers.

Get rid of Yarmo, Lanzini and Anderson. We'll be lucky to get 20 million for the lot, but it all helps.

Alternatively, Moyes gets a very limited budget and we become a struggling team again. It's fine lines.

Are our owners going to twist or stick?

Going on the basis we sneak into one of the european comps i would say we need the following

Lingard on a perm
Striker
winger/striker
Centre mid x2
Centre back if Balbuena goes

Personally id keep Balbuena if we are in europe he can play in that. One of the CM spots can be taken up by Coventry but is he any good......we've not seen him yet

The players we want to shift are pretty obvious but i dont see many clubs lining up to take them........certainly not for a decent fee or without us having to pay off some of their remaining contracts. We need a good 4 or 5 though to pack out the squad if we are to go on a european tour...particularly in CM and up front

When are the TV deals renewed? That could have a big impact on transfers this summer.

Stubbo... we have already bought Benrahma, made it permanent in January.

I’d definitely keep him.

Johnson needs to stay and be used when appropriate

I notice England were shot out of the u21's when instead of picking a proper defender like Johnson the idiot manager picked that Spurs player ... Tafeta Bangbango I think his name is ... who made another horrendous ricket at Newcastle I saw

Our thieving owners have already mortgaged next year's Sky money I understand. Also everyone is broke.

The only thing we might splash out on is keeping Lingard. The rest will be loans I recon.

Who's gonna buy Anderson under these economic times? Be lucky to loan him out again.

I don't see Johnson going out on loan... assuming European football we will need a (much) bigger squad. Johnson gives cover in two positions and will get game time.

I'd give Balbuena a new contract. I doubt he's on big wages, he's done very little wrong when called upon and by all accounts he wants to stay. Plus Alves is untested. We've been relatively lucky with injuries in defence, I can't see us getting in better than Balbuena for less. I' sure him and Alves would both be utilised unless we have no injuries whatsoever.

It has to be remembered also that if we do keep Rice, Soucek and Lingard plus Antonio who will obviously still be here, all four are starters and yet the CM/DM and Striker positions are where we need to strengthen. So bar maybe a striker being offered a rotation place with Antonio any CM/DM coming will be back up. You therefore have to persuade players in those positions to join without guaranteeing regular first team football, unless Moyes changes formation. That therefore rules out top players in those positions. For instance would Tammy Abraham leave his bench warming at Chelsea just to bench warm at West Ham, that's IF Antonio stays fit.

If Rice goes then Lingard will not come to West Ham permanently, I think that's a given. Lingard would only come if he is given assurances that as a Club we are trying to build. Rice and Soucek staying are pivotal to getting Lingard.

Watching the game last night I found myself wondering if they were still here (not that I would have them back BTW) but would Obiang, Kouyate or even Fernandes have played before Noble? I find it odd that we had more cover in the squad as a team fighting relegation than we do fighting top four!

I missed out Masuaku but expect him to stay next season and be a left sided fringe player and to do a job when required. Just like Fredericks.

Re: Moyes needs to be given 100 million in the summer
I think we will be targeting young promising players or proven Premier League players that can do a job for us.

I expect we will move on -

Martin
Reid
Balbuena
Johnson loan
Lanzini
Anderson
Yarmolenko

And retain this squad -

Fabianski.
Randolph
Trott (Promoted)

Dawson (To be made permanent)
Ogbonna
Diop
Alves (Promoted)

Coufal
Fredericks

Cresswell
New Left back / WIng Back

Rice
Soucek
Noble
New Midfielder

Bowen
Fornals
Benrahma
New Attacking Player

Antonio
New Forward

I expect we will make mainly loans and free signings and spend any funds on a striker.

Possible loans -
Billy Gilmour
Brandon Williams
Reiss Nelson
Abdallah Sima
Jan Kuchta

Possible Frees -
John Lundstram
Josh King

Possible Transfers -
Rico Henry
Josh Dasilva
Jessie Lingard
Ivan Toney
Tammy Abrahams
Patson Daka
Odsonne Edouard
Alfredo Morelos
Moussa Dembele

Re: Moyes needs to be given 100 million in the summer
I suspect he'll get about 30m (The Haller money and 20m on top from the league placings improvement) plus sales generated.

Anderson - doubt we'll shift him as he's not played - expect him to be with us in pre-season.

Yarmalenko - might get 5m but more likely he goes on a free as his wages will never get covered by anyone else that would want to sign him.

Lanzini - probably the most saleable, but also he's out of form and you'd think we wouldn't get more than 8-10m for him.

So about 65m

Other than that I'd expect we would likely lose:

- Balbuena (free)
-

With a squad for next season that looks like:

Fabianski
Randolph
Trott

Coufal
Fredericks
Cresswell
Johnson
Masuaku

Diop
Dawson (2.5m)
Ogbonna
Alves
Baptiste

Rice
Soucek
New CM (20m)
Noble
Coventry

Fornals
Lingard (25m)
Anderson
Bowen
Benrahma

Antonio
New CF (30m)

That makes an 77.5m outlay, and 2 new players to come into the squad as well as paying for and keeping Lingard and Dawson (so by my reckoning we're already light if sales go well, plus we really need a Randolph upgrade).

Another possible scenario is we could buy and then immediately sell Benrahma...he's not really taken things by storm, but there would still be those interested I suspect, so just because we have to buy him doesn't mean we couldn't also sell him and pull in 25m plus. We might also take a punt on a CM (say only 10m outlay) as the spot needs padding out as opposed to a first choice being brought in, freeing up money for the CF).

We're going to desperately need some of the U23s to step up or we'll be in trouble (and there is no way Moyes will have the funds to build both squad depth and add quality additions that improve the first XI and we're inevitably going to lose senior players).

Re: Moyes needs to be given 100 million in the summer
Leicester have proven over the past 5 years that you don’t need to spend hundreds of millions to be successful.

The same with us over the past 18 months. Soucek & Coufal didn’t cost fortunes while Lingard & Dawson have been loans.

Obviously there has to be some investment but a good manager and a good scouting system is just as important when it comes to signing players.

We will be lucky to get 20 million for Anderson, Lanzini & Yarmolenko but at least that frees up a lot of wages for any potential Bosman’s.

The bulk of any money we do have will be taken up by a new striker and trying to sign Lingard permanently.

A new defender & Midfielder will have to be on a Bosman or/and taking a chance on an unknown for a small fee like we did with Coufal. That’s where the skills of the manager and scouts come into play.

I've been watching Diop quite closely this season. We have definitely lost games/goals because of him that Ogbonna would have never allowed to happen (Man City and Arsenal spring to mind).

I actually reckon he'll make a good defender, he's still young and learning his trade. He's good in the tackle and in the air and is decent bringing the ball out, he just completely lacks spatial awareness and the sense of danger that Ogbonna and Dawson have.

Re: Moyes needs to be given 100 million in the summer
Making CL would make a significant difference to the transfer budget and would also make it pretty certain that we keep Rice and Soucek and seal the deal for Lingard. If we only make the Europa , which I think is more likely, then it still will have been a terrific season but all of the above go from certainties to mere probabilities.

Beyond that, the top, top priority has to be to get a serious striker and a couple of other attacking players, given the expected departure of Anderson, Lanzini and Yarmolenko.

The next priority is cover for midfield - ideally someone who can play either as a DM or an AM. We'll still have Noble and I am hoping Coventry and maybe Foreign can step up.

At the back, we may need cover for LB if it's deemed that Longelo isn't ready to step up. As for CBs, Balbuena will be off but we can promote Alves and we also have the highly promising Alese and Baptiste in reserve. However, after last night I reckon we should get shot of Diop, which will probably mean we need a replacement.

Roll on the summer transfer thread!

Re: Moyes needs to be given 100 million in the summer
Right now I'd be mightily relieved if we still have Rice and Soucek here next season and delighted if we still have Lingard, let alone 100M to spend! All other positions could be arguably improved upon if you want the team to improve, although when fit Antonio is essential to the way we play as are Coufal and Ogbonna who have done more than enough to show they are integral to the team, and Fornals is going a long way to proving that himself.

Generally whilst we could upgrade at left back we definitely need the obvious areas improved first with good back up's at the very least at goalkeeper, central midfield and another, if not two strikers. I suspect Moyes will accept Frederik's as back up for Coufal.

If we don't have \\Rice, Soucek and Lingard you would do well to replace them even with 100M !
