I liked Balbuena when he first started but he didn't dominate as well as I wanted him to.
Dawson and Ogbonna are our first choice, just excellent in my humble opinion.
Agibola Alese is also an excellent left sided CB who recently signed a three year contract. He's 20 years old.
We should only buy another CB if Diop goes as far as I can see.

Think it was Balbuena's choice to not re-sign given he'd dropped down the pecking order.
Understood he was going with Pellegrini at Betis but obviously money talks.
Started brilliantly but not quite the same when he came back from injury.
Funny how in the space of a couple of years he and Ogbonna swapped places from no.1 to no.4

Not quite sure why people are happy to see Balbuena go.
Apparently doubled his money and heading to Dynamo Moscow.

Bit of a stretch to think of Alves or Baptiste being better than him anytime soon.

I'll be interested in how Alves goes this season, now that they've let Balbuena go. Obviously, Diop isn't first in the frame any more, and we'll probably settle for Dawsome and Ogbonna, but when the time comes I'd like to see if Alves is an improvement on Balbuena.

Baptiste isnt 18 til November so think they'll look to give him a full season in the u23's but maybe consider a loan in January.
Alves seems to be the one who could be on the fringes of the squad being 4 years older.

Its time for the likes of Coventry , Holland & Silva to step up in preseason or they should be moved on.

Southbank

All very true.

Oxford was asking for a huge pay rise as well and I got something if I remember correctly. A possible reason to not have him alongside the other kids on next to nothing but not great for him in the end.

Anyway, on Baptiste - took his goal well, if that was him.

The only interesting thing about these early pre-season games is to see who is knocking around the squad. That aside, I couldn't give a flying fuck about it. It's all about Sunday, unless you're a UBER FAN, lol.

Re: Dundee v WHU (1pm today)
Irons - I think they still see him as a defender, but they just want to give him game time and some early experience.

The important thing with Baptiste is to ease him into things and to avoid what happened with Reece Oxford. Very different lad, of course.

But, privately, many at the club will tell you they probably threw Reece into the action a little too soon and him training with the first team, when he should have been getting game time and learning with the stiffs/youths, cost him.

Always a delicate balance, innit?

Re: Dundee v WHU (1pm today)
I wonder if they are looking to make a Rice-like position switch with Baptiste.

He was playing further forward today but maybe just the personnel available.

But also could be why we have heard less about CM target than we have about CB ones.

Complete speculation.

Man Utd have watched Baptists for the last couple of years and other clubs too no doubt.

Baptiste is only a young kid but I confidently predict he will make it. He has natural ability and simply looks the part.
