Just WHO should take our penalties?
Noble was very reliable from the spot, but is likely not to see the field too much this season like last, unless there’s some injury trouble.

From the contenders and takers so far, Lingard (last season) Rice and Antonio fill me with very little confidence. Yarmolenko would’ve a solid bet but again unlikely to see the field too much. Who in the current usual first XI is our man going forward?

Soucek? Bowen? Benrahma?

I’ll go Cresswell.

Thoughts?

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
In fact with Dicks and Stewart’s record on penalties, is there an argument for trying to place it?

Ray Stewart placed/side footed plenty of penalties.

Have you seen the 1981 league Cup final?

Fraser, the non blasted penalties didn’t work out that well for us in the Euros. Just my opinion FWIW.

And the blasted penalties worked out so well for Pearce and Waddle at Italia 90.

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
It's a very good question and one which certainly needs to be addressed
We need to choose a player to take them and stick with that choice
It needs to be a player who's nearly always going to be on the pitch and someone who's always cool under pressure
A player can practice penalties all day long, week in week out but when it comes to the real thing there's all sorts of things that kick in, nerves and self doubt etc
Most professional footballers should be well capable of putting away a penalty in practice but in the heat of the situation it's very different
I should think Soucek or Cresswell would be our coolest players under pressure

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
Soucek and Benrahma were the pen takers for their previous clubs.

In their careers to date Soucek has taken 13 pens and missed 3, Benrahma has taken 6 and scored them all.

Benrahma would probably be the better choice then.

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
You need players who strike the ball well
Antonio does not, I can see why Rice got put up but he’s quite an emotional lad you need someone with ice in their veins
It’s ridiculous that Soucek isn’t taking them he’s a cool finisher and he strikes it well and I read further down that he’s never missed one out of the 8 he’s taken which makes it ridiculous he’s not on them. Easiest way to look at it is if we were in the last min of the cup final and it was 1-1 and somebody had the ball squared to them 12 yards out who would you want kicking the ball…..it certainly wouldn’t be Antonio ball could literally end up anywhere

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
You need either player with big bollocks and a bit of talent or you need a confident player wit ha bit of finesse.

For me Soucek (bollocks) Cresswell or Benrahma (finesse).

Lanzini or Yarmolenko would probably take a good pen but likely wont be on the pitch.

I tell you now I wouldn't let Antonio or Fornals anywhere near a pen.

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
Tell the players they have an hour to prepare for a penalty kick competition in training.

To recreate the pressure, tell them that the winner of the competition will become the team’s penalty taker for the rest of the season and each penalty scored in a game will result in a £10k goal bonus.

This management lark is easy.

Did Bowen not take them for Hull? If so, either him or Since I who looks like he could smash the ball.

Moyes, needs to man up and choose someone and stick to it.

Adrian, of course.

In 60 plus years of following WH, that one against Everton will live longer in the memory than most others, Hurst v Banks not withstanding, sigh.

none from the team I play for we have missed them all.
The last bloke left our team after he missed.
But that was probably because we took the piss out of him. :-)

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
Sorry mate, perhaps it’s me wrong, as said only my opinion.Nobes record speaks for itself, but when Dicks or Stewart stood over the penalty spot, the ball was going in the fucking net. And some. Against whoever was the keeper. Spectacularly.
All I’m saying is that I was more comfortable with that style as it gave the keeper less chance of saving it.

Sorry mate, but I'm utterly confused by what you're saying.

Nobles style has meant he is one of the most successful penalty takers in the English game.

The best ever was Le Tissier, and he wasn't a blast it and hope merchant, which bizzarely you seem to think is the way to go.

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
Certainly not Antonio. He's got the power but no subtlety or disguise - it was completely obvious where that penalty was going yesterday.

Soucek for me - spook out the keeper with those war criminal eyes.

Why would he want to leave Barcelona to come and play for West Ham?

He started for them and score 2 goals. I expect he's pretty happy right now.

Re: Just WHO should take our penalties?
We have been spoilt by having Noble.
The others are taking them for the wrong reasons.
Lingard down to EGO
Antonio to help get his bonus by reaching a GOAL TARGET
Rice because he thinks he should as CAPTAIN

Soucek is far too humble while the others are pushing themselves forward.
The obvious choice
