Guardian Rumour Mill

Barry Glendenning

While transfer deadline day ends at 11.30pm on Tuesday, Real Madrid prefer to march to the beat of their own drum and haver decided that Paris Saint-Germain have until close of play today to accept their baffling £163m offer for Kylian Mbappé or the deal is off. The Rumour Mill is going to go out on a limb and guess that if the French side, for whom Mbappé scored twice in their win over Reims on Sunday night, fail to respond to Real Madrid’s “threat”, then the deadline might just be extended by another 24 hours.

Tottenham are reported to have ended any interest they might have had in the Sampdoria and Denmark winger Mikkel Damsgaard, but Liverpool, Aston Villa and Leeds are admiring him from afar. Villa are are also reported to be interested in securing the services of Curtis Jones from Liverpool and are preparing a bid of £15m. The 20-year-old midfielder has been pushed down the pecking order at Anfield by the emergence of Harvey Elliott and has yet to sample first-team action this season.

The imminent arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford means Dan James is almost certainly surplus to Manchester United’s requirements and headed for the Old Trafford door marked “Do one!” and Everton, Leeds, Crystal Palace and Brighton have all been mooted parties interested in offering the Wales winger a new home.

With Kurt Zouma gone to West Ham, Chelsea’s efforts to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla have hit a snag. Sick of fielding lowball offers from the European champions, the La Liga side’s beancounters have threatened to make them trigger the player’s €80m release clause unless they stop wasting their time. Koundé himself is believed to be extremely eager to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Venezuelan target man Salomón Rondón could be on his way back to the Premier League after departing for China two years ago. Everton are currently in talks with Dalian Pro with a view to signing a striker who has previously worked successfully with Rafa Benítez, at Newcastle. Everton also remain hopeful of bringing the Porto winger Luis Díaz to Goodison Park but their apparent determination to send James Rodríguez the other way as part of the deal is threatening to derail negotiations.

Dennis Praet has yet to line up for Leicester this season and will not get to do so if Torino have their way. Meanwhile in Germany, Dortmund want to sign either Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea or Diogo Dalot from Manchester United. The Rumour Mill “understands” (translation: read somewhere else) that Thomas Tuchel is not keen on letting his winger leave, while Dalot wants to stay at Old Trafford.

And finally, depending on your media outlet of choice, Manchester United are or are not planning to make a last-ditch effort to sign Kieran Trippier from Atlético Madrid, while Tottenham are ramping up their efforts to sign Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal.

West Ham ‘could take action’ in signing €15m-rated player – Manager admits attacker ‘can leave’ club

West Ham United have been repeatedly linked with strikers since the start of this year, but they haven’t managed to sign a new No.9 in the two windows so far.

The Hammers have less than 48 hours to sign a new forward and one of the options to consider would be Gaëtan Laborde.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who provide a short update on the player’s situation at Montpellier. The 27-year-old scored three goals in the first four matches, including one in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Lille on Sunday.

Despite his involvement against Lille, the newspaper adds that ‘it is not excluded’ for him to change clubs before the window closes on Tuesday.

It’s claimed David Moyes’ side, along with Sevilla, Lyon and Rennes ‘could take action’ to sign Laborde. Interestingly, the Ligue 1 side are ready to sell and ‘expect’ a fee of €15m to let him leave.

Online, L’Equipe have provided comments from Montpellier manager Olivier Dall’Oglio, where he admitted there’s a possibility for Laborde to leave the French club.

“We spoke with Gaëtan, with the whole club. He is a boy who absolutely wanted to play (this Sunday), who is totally invested in the club until the end,” Dall’Oglio said.

“But the context means that he too can leave very quickly. I have no certainty. He can leave, he can stay. I don’t know. It’s the transfer window.”

Everton and West Ham fighting for Salomon Rondon

Olly Dawes

Everton are keen to sign Dalian Pro striker Salomon Rondon before the transfer deadline – but West Ham United have also shown an interest in a deal.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Everton would like to sign Rondon ahead of the transfer deadline.

That’s really no surprise given the relationship Rondon has had with Everton boss Rafael Benitez over the years.

Benitez signed Rondon for Newcastle back in 2018, and the striker recorded 12 goals in 33 games under Benitez before following him to China with Dalian Pro.

The pair could now work together with a third club, as Everton are chasing a deal before the deadline as they seek experienced competition and cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, this report now claims that three other Premier League clubs want Rondon too.

West Ham United are one of the contenders, alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers and even Leicester City.

Agent breaks silence on Hammers bid

Nikola Vlasic’s agent Tonci Martic has broken silence on the Hammers move for his client but insists the deal is not over the line just yet.
Vlašić’s agent said: “We are in the process of negotiations with West Ham, they are progressing. But the deal has not been completed yet,”
However, we understand from inside the Irons that the player is currently undergoing his medical in London and things are likely to be confirmed short of any late glitch.
Local media claim CSKA Moscow will definitely accept the bid and Nikola is said to be keen on the move as it has been known he wants to leave.
Vlasic is expected to cost nearly £26m with up to £7m of add ons joining on a five-year contract on around £66,000 according to reports.
If completed before tomorrow evening when the transfer window closes it will take David Moyes summer signings spending to £57m or over £70m if you include the add-ons.

West Ham find deal with club for signing – Must improve personal offer after ‘inadequate’ first attempt

West Ham United and Ajax have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nicolas Tagliafico, according to reports from The Netherlands.

Votebal International claims the clubs agreed a deal to make the transfer for €12m.

They can’t say the move is done already, though, since it’s made clear that Tagliafico himself is still to reach an agreement with the Premier League side.

It’s claimed that the fullback has been wishing to leave the Dutch side ‘for some time’, and the club had already made him a promise they’d let him go ‘for a certain amount’.

Voetbal International points out that Tagliafico is currently in South America, as he joined the Argentine national team for the upcoming international games. It’s not clear if that would harm any chances of a deal, although it certainly makes it a little more complicated.

West Ham’s deal with Ajax to sign the 28-year-old is also being reported by De Telegraaf. They say although the player is in Venezuela, his agent Ricardo Sclieper is in Amsterdam sorting the deal.

It’s said the initial offer from the Hammers, which was for a four-year contract, was ‘inadequate’, so the entourage are now waiting for an ‘improved’ one. The player is said to be hoping that the transfer will be done.

Short term deal, would be happy to be understudy, could make an impact off the bench. Agree about his agree but as a fall back option i would look at him.

Used to like Rondon but he was a bit old when he left for China so I don't think he's going to be up to the premier League after being on holiday for a couple of years. In his day would have been great competition for Antonio.
