Juggling Premier League and Europa
Saints Saturday, Europa Thursday, Man United then on the Sunday followed by them again in the carabao.

Will be interesting to see how Moyes rotates the squad.

Play a slightly weaker team in the Prem so that a few key players can feature in Europa? The players will certainly want to feature and we cant make 11 straight changes if we want to keep performing at a high level.

Masuaku and Yarmalenko would be likely picks for Europa league and both find themselves injured.

Cresswell and Antonio will have to be carefully managed. Both prone to an injury, key for us and we don't have an adequate replacements.

A couple of injuries and the squad is already looking thin.

Hopefully Moyes will put his faith in some younger players. I dont see him having any other choice if we want to try and keep as many players fit as possible.

IRONS.

The best players in the best teams don’t only play 38 games a season.

We have 46 guaranteed games this season. They’ll be ok.

Playing Thursday and then Sunday is no different to playing Wednesday and Saturday. Pre Premier League, this nonsense about midweek away games in Europe being a burden on players, was never mentioned. These days, more games are played all over the weekend from Friday to Monday.

I get the jist about juggling and i personally think that the away games would be a good time to play some of the younger players in amongst the senior players. Might be a stupid idea, but then you will never know unless you try.

If we really want to focus on the Premier League then why not just put the under 23 squad in the Europa League and see what happens. They have six games guaranteed and see which ones really step up to the plate.

What you expecting him to play Thursday & sundays? Off your rocker if you think he’s up to that. Just emphasizes what a fuck up it was not getting a forward.

I know it is obvious but managing the recovery after games becomes so important.

Never understood why teams playing in Europe, do not stay the night of the game at the destination, rather than fly home and get back at silly o'clock.

Next week after the Zagreb game, West Ham should stay in Croatia, recover and train lightly, then fly to manchester on the saturday.

Enjoy the culture, make it a trip, creates some good bonding time for the players away.

I think it was Portsmouth many years ago when Peter Crouch was photo'd on a beach with the rest of the players the day after the away game all smiling and enjoying themselves They then came back and won the away game on the sunday to confound all the critics.

this month will really tell us how we are going to fair for the rest of the season , also how he is going to balance the teams depending on the competition it is .

Playing a game at the weekend and another midweek shouldn’t be too much to bare for these conditioned professionals.
Not at this stage of the season any way.

Might get a bit sketchy later on in the season though especially if we go on a cup run. However we can always pick up a player or two n Jan if needed.

We will be fine Considering there is another International break in October we are only looking at approx 14 weeks, no need to over do it with back ups.

I’d play our starters in all 3 of our next games and play the 2nd string in the Caraboa Cup.

I remember the intense atmosphere of European games under the lights at the Boleyn. "Special" doesn't really do it justice. Just hope that essence can be captured and some of it sprayed around the O/S.

As many have said, those times were literally a generation ago, so I hope the youngsters can get a proper feel for what us old gits keep bangin' on about.

I would have thought Yarm & Vlas could play a nice role striking in europe

I'll be amazed if Antonio will be fit enough to play both Premier League and Europa.

We need to hope he does not pick up an injury.

Re: Juggling Premier League and Europa
Well write the Carabao cup off for a start.

Usually I care about the league cup as it’s our best chance of winning anything (even though we never do) but it’s all about the Europa League this season.

I would be quite happy to finish 12th in the league and have a real go in Europe. Maybe get to the quarterfinals. You never know.

Apart from a couple of rounds in the UEFA Cup under Harry, and a match against Palermo under Pardew most of us haven’t experienced proper European football as West Ham supporters. We’ve never seen us have a guaranteed 6 games before.

It might not happen again for a long time so fuck the league cup, get 40 points as quickly as possible in the league and let’s put our strongest team possible out for all the games in Europe.

Fulham got to the final about 12 years ago so who knows.

Of course it won't be a complete second string, it's the Europa League not the Carabao Cup, ffs.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said.
Just highlighting what our back up looks like.

Why is the league important if we're aiming to finish high to get in a competition our only cf can't play in.

Antonio is well up for playing Europe football.

What a load of guff that is.

Re: Juggling Premier League and Europa
We can't affpord to play a "weaker" team in the prem and undo all our hard work of getting to 6th by having a medeocre season.

Fortunately, it does look like our "weaker" team looks a bit stronger than it did before the window.

At present, our second team looks something like this but it's unlikely we will play a completely different team so I can't see us playing a complete second string

Areola
Fredericks, Dawson, Diop, Johnson
Noble, Krul, Lanzini
Yarmalenko, Vlasic, Masuaku

It's not inspiring if we were playing in the Prem, but might be good enough for Europe and Cups. Plus a few youngsters knocking on the door.

I would say the issue is mot with ghe goalie. Its with those that run about a lot and get minir injuries ( or worse). I’d try and get a two goal lead, then hold on with the subs.

Manuel 2:56 Thu Sep 9
Re: Juggling Premier League and Europa
We've got 4 new first term players (or at least 3 if Kral isn't quite ready) then capable players like Lanzini, Diop, Noble, Johnson, Fredericks, so that's 9 players on top of our first eleven. We can go strong in both comps if not too many injuries.

Agree but that does go against Moyes mantra of making subs only once we have surpassed the 85th minute and we are winning 5-0.
