Grenfell
Just watched the Channel 4 documentary on this. One of the saddest things I’ve ever seen.

Those bastards basically built a matchbox. There should be criminal proscecutions to hold to account the suppliers and the landlord.

The mindset of people making the decisions on things like this appears totally detached from reality.

"Hello boss, got to get to New York to fix this problem. Will be a six hour flight"

"Come on, Mike, you're a smart guy. Do it in 4. I've got a meeting now, bye."

Re: Grenfell
Back in 2014 the Local Authority Building Control ( LABC ) issued a certificate to Celotex for use of their insulation installed at Grenfell stating that it could only be used in conjunction with inflammable fibre cement panels.

However rather than use fibre cement panels at Grenfell cheaper, combustible, polyethylene filled aluminium panels were used. Saving an estimated £300K.

"HR. Various manufacturers produce cladding and architects design the alterations to facades of buildings like Grenfell. The costings for these projects is where the trouble begins when economies outweigh safety considerations."

And all of it would have to be designed and manufactured to conform to safety standards. Products will be cheaper than others, but all are supposed to be safe and are judged to be safe by engineers.

I'm not even saying they should be held culpable. The unfortunate reality is that we are often safe now, because unforeseen circumstances in the past led to tragic events which simultaneously demonstrated faults in products and systems that could be addressed.

Still just blame engineers it’s the easy way out or take what twoleftfeet implies whereby flammable cladding is not an issue it’s the way residents load up their ring mains instead.

How many political points have I scored today and more importantly where can I spend them?

Remain intrigued by the cause, the effect was obviously grim
But always suspected a wrongun by passing the meter with snide cable to run a 'herb farm'
It all went quiet on the subject of the shifty character that left the flat and alerted a neighbour to scarper as he was on his heels with a bag of suspicious swag
Also, remember the authority being unsure to how many residents were actually occupying the place, smacked of rampant, acknowledged sub-letting, that was allowed to continue
Absolute shit show from all 'agency' touch points, including that Dykey Danni wench ('retired' soon after) that was running the Fire Service and busied herself in school LGBT presentations whilst fire inspections were missed/incorrectly conducted resulting in the poor sods being told during the fire to stay inside their death traps

because this country *WASN'T* as cunty then as it is now.

The cunts at Channel 4 must have been knocking one out at the prospect of firing this up again.

Engineers developed that cladding.

Other engineers signed off on it as safe.

You are another one who wants to score little political points.

Do you know why Ronan Point, Kings Cross, Aberfan, Pipa Alfa and others weren't used to score political points so widely, because this country was as cunty then as it is now.

The first thought through a lot of people's heads these days when they hear of a tragedy is, how can I use this to advance my political cause.

It's fucking morbid and gross.

The lack of adequate power sockets in a 21st century renovated building is a scandal in it's own right. That should have had priority over any and all cosmetic work carried out.

Rooms with 2 - at the most 4 13A sockets - what fucking planet are these people on?

You've got Chim completely wrong. He's a kind, compassionate bloke.

Apart from when you joke with him about Zoltan points, then he'll say he wants to stamp on your head whilst it's on a curb.

What happened there is you tried to score political points out of someone else's suffering and you were talking shit.

You want to have a look at yourself.

At the risk of sounding controversial, I'm sick to death of hearing about this fucking place. Knock it down and put a park bench with a plaque on it or something.

Mike, they'll always be remembered for it as there are about four or five exact tower blocks scattered around that part of North Kensington.

Imagine living in one of those and seeing your neighbours burning to death.

Horrible to comprehend.

Re: Grenfell
They plan to tear the thing down and bury it now, don't they? Replaced with a nice gated executive complex, I'll be bound.

They should re-model it into the shape of a giant Swan Vesta, with an "eternal flame" on it so powerful that it can be seen from the ISS in broad daylight.

The selfish bastards that let this happen need to be forever reminded of the cost of their (in)actions for the rest of time.
