Fascinated by the moon landings as a kid, but 50+ years later, still no manned mission has gone further. Being limited to chemical rockets, we won't.
Spend the budget, looking for faster than light travel. Before somebody says you can't go faster than light, read up on the recent papers, about refinements to the theoretical Alcubierre Drive.

It would be fascinating to know what the future holds for our kids, their kids, etc etc. Will my great grandchildren live on Mars or the moon? Will earth still be inhabitable? Do the Chinese take over the world and make everyone eat dim sum?
