A sad day for Coventry City FC. it's good to see them coming back now too.

The 87 final is one of the classics.

Takashi Miike When Brazil came over to play against England in Wembley that year, the Brazilian player couldn't believe that Bennet wasn't in the England squad. They thought his performance in the 87 cup final was much in a "very Brazilian" style.

I remember that cup final. Lloyd McGrath job was to man mark Hoddle, He did the job so well Hoddle didn't had a sniff at performing at his best and was taken off. After Hoddle was taken off Lloyd was given an "open role" in the end he set up the winning goal with a cross that was deflected off the knee of Gary Mabbutt.

just laughed and laughed when the ball got into the net.

All I kept hearing from Tottenham supporters I knew was something along the lines of 'Never lost a cup final' or 'Never lost at Wembley'.....then this happened............. :-)

As mentioned, a great character. He and George Curtis turned Coventry (at least briefly) from perennial relegation battlers to mid table respectability and cup winners. The 87 Cup final was fucking brilliant and even better that I watched it round my Tottenham supporting mates house.

By far my favourite non West Ham cup final. Houchen bullet header. Mabbutt’s own goal. “Hot Shot Tottenham.” Indeed. Magnificent day.

RIP John.

Was he the manager who tore into his players at half time and said and you can bring your fucking dinner?

Anyway, RIP John Sillett

He looked old then, so I thought he would have already passed years ago.
