Towing a trailer. Advice required.
|
I’m a little jittery. I have to pick up a trailer. This means me towing it home. However my car doesn’t have the required tow ball with electrics etc.
Have been quoted £450 to install the above. Absolutely not happening as I’ve never needed to tow anything before, and will never again.
Is there such a thing as hiring a car for a day with all the shit that’s required installed? Or would the cost be similar.
And, no, I haven’t wiped my knob on the trailer yet.

Keep trying with that shiply thing. You will get high prices if you are a deadline, lots of spam qutes etc. But if you are flexible on dates you will fine someone doing a job in the area and want a return leg journey so you should get for less than £260 (unless its a bg journey, up North etc). I got a caravan moved from Suffolk to Norfolk for about £150. I'm not Millwall BTW and I have a home with brick walls.

Ask Gph, he lives in a trailer. Careful though you can’t trust those Pikeys!

I’d pay someone the £260.
If you haven’t towed before loads can go wrong, factor in a hire car/van that’s probably bigger than you are used to and there goes your deposit. If you passed your test after 1992 (I think) then you won’t be licenced to drive it. If it’s a big trailer (over 750kg) then you need a class one licence (I think)

When you say "Trailer", you mean "Foundations for your new home", don't you?

£260 a day for a Disco
Or splash out on a Lambo Urus for £1000
Or just go to your local Enterprise and pay a tenner an hour or whatever it is. Tow bars are usually standard on new vans, I think

Get a quote from Shiply. Someone will do it for you. Like putting out for decorating work on one of those trust a trader sites.

Hire a van.
Specify you need a tow-bar
Will very likely be a more common request

Lower yourself... log onto a local caravan club web site and smarm up a bit. Then ask for a favour.
Then have a good long shower.
