Booing former players
Watching the reaction Grealish got from Villa fans, a club he supports and loves and only left when Villa got a big fee.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4lmoW-jguI

Can understand it if a player pushes to go by being bit of a cunt and going moody but if its to further their career or go to a bigger club to hopefully win things or enhance their international chances, then a bit more respect should be shown

Would West Ham fans do the same to Declan if he leaves?

Re: Booing former players
That’s BS.

Cottee still scored 15 goals in his last season at the club despite us being on a downward spiral and almost going down that season.

Yeah of course he wasn’t happy. The club had sold McAvennie at the start of the season and he wasn’t replaced until they signed Leroy Rosenior towards the end of the season while the rest of the team wasn’t good enough.

Mark Ward wanted to leave and fell out with Lou Macari because he wouldn’t accept another clubs offer. Ward then refused to travel to an away game which in the end forced his move through.

Luckily we got a decent deal by getting Morley & Bishop.

I thought Cottee became a lazy cunt with a fat arse who’s head went down when the chips were down at the end of his first spell.
Compare that to Mark Ward who went to Everton a few seasons later. Im sure Wardie always gave 100% in a shit team and the whole ground chanted “don't go wardie” when we knew he was off. Don't remember that for West Ham Tone with his claret and blue DM’s.

Cottee always semed to be booed when he played against us fo Everton. But I remember us clapping him onto the pitch when he came on as a substitute for Leicester. I think that was because, in between, he has a 2nd spell with us, and his goals helped keep us up in the 1994-5 season.

Odd to remember a time when Everton were attractive enough to prise good players away from the team they supported.

Since Rooney to Man U, I've thought of them as victims of that sort of thing.

Yes, I remember the first game with him in the opposition. Apart from during those glorious night time cup games, we were all really sour that season. We knew we were getting relegated right from day one.

He got some abuse but also a bit of the "give us a wave" song. I thought he handled it well and showed the right amount of respect.

Cottee was booed, but it wasn't that bad. One thing I can remember.

I remember Geoff Hurst being booed upon his first return with Stoke during the 73-74 season.

I was in the South Bank in the pouring rain, with a 16,000 crowd and a 2-0 loss.

Re: Booing former players
Cottee was booed whenever he returned with Everton.

He was my hero as a kid but I don’t blame him at all for wanting to leave.

We went from almost winning the league in 1986 to spending the next couple of seasons fighting relegation because we didn’t try and build and improve the squad.

McAvennie was sold to Celtic and the only thing keeping us up was Cottee’s goals. That was confirmed when as soon as he left we got relegated.

No one should blame him for wanting to join a club that would challenge for honours (although it didn’t quite work out) and further his England aspirations.

The club let Cottee down rather than the other way round.

Some deserve it and some do not it is how they left the club which determines it

Re: Booing former players
Cottee was probably just pissed off the way things were going and hard to blame him really. One minute we are 3rd and less than a year later fighting relegation. Frank left to Celtic and didn't get any bad feeling, possibly as Celtic were his boyhood team.

Saw an interview recently with Defoe about his career and he spoke very well actually, admitting that he got it wrong and spoke very generously about the Club, which is very different to Lampard who seems to gloss over his West Ham career when interviewed to the extent you would never have known he played for West Ham. It's his old man I feel sorry for really.

some cunts who 'support' our current team can't resist booing our own players, not sure we should be worrying about booing former players

5 bellies, pretty sure Cottee was booed. Couldn't wait to get out and join Everton - thought he was better than us at the time.

Re: Booing former players
Ex West Ham players fall into two very distinct categories.
1. Those that gave there all left the club with dignity and respect - Scott Parker, Joe Cole, Michael Carrick, Paul Allen, Tony Cottee and even Rio Ferdinand.

2 Those that may have given their all but still saw fit to rubbished the club on departure - Jermaine Defoe, Frank Lampard and Paul Ince etc.

Not hard to work this out

Fifth Column 1:03 Sat Dec 4
Re: Booing former players
At the time of their departures I had a lot more dislike of Ince and Defoe than Lampard Jnr.

Over the years I have softened my attitude towards the first two as they've never slagged us off after that to my knowledge.

Whereas my dislike for fat boy has only increased over the years given his constant criticism of the club and fans as well as him just being a general arrogant #####.

He's up there with Dimitri Payet and Steve Bruce in my top ten footballers I can't stand and would happily boo.

No-one will boo Declan when he leaves because I have every faith he'll continue to give his all to the end and won't slag us off.
