According to reporting I've read today, this is an honour that was decided upon by the Queen/Monarchy directly and he wasn't on the 'list' of any of the political parties.

Surprised by Redgrave accepting a DBE because I had thought she eschewed the idea of any award withe the term “British Empire” in it.

Get over it son. If Labour disagreed with her so much, why did they not do anything about it during their 14 years in power? Or at least do enough to shut you up bleating about Thatcher.

Twoleftfeet, I agree with what you say about Blair but he could not have got this country to be Bush’s gimp without the strong Parliamentary support of Tory Leader IDS and his lapdogs.
As for Blair being responsible for where we are now as a country it’s an interesting comment and the first that I have seen that blames Blair for us now being lead by. Priapic, lazy, uncommitted buffoon.

If you really wanted to fuck the world up permanently, it'd be difficult to think up a better way of doing it than what Bush & Blair did.
Bomb the fuck out the Muslim world, start a series of civil wars, cause hundreds of thousands of innocent deaths, basically ensuring that everyone living there hates us... then import millions of them into the west.... and then ensure its legally almost impossible to deport extremists etc
Seriously, how is this even fixable? A nuclear war would probably be less damaging, in terms of guaranteed long-term suffering.
Literally all the big problems in the west (except covid, maybe) are a direct result of Tony Blair and the Muslim world is probably never gonna see peace again in our lifetimes. He'll be responsible for MILLIONS of deaths.
Next they'll be knighting Jimmy Savile..... oh

RM10.
People were coming here to work long before Thatcher took office and very welcome they were.
Blair opened the floodgates and is responsible for so much of what is wrong with our country.

You're right mate. As far as I know she has input on the Birthday Honours, but not on the New Year's Honours. Certain types of peerage are in her personal gift, I think. Most, if not all, of the political gongs get handed out at NY. Ancient or not, I'm pretty sure she makes her own decisions when she has the right.
