So what do we reckon we need?
For me -
Left back (I think we have to assume that we won’t be seeing Cresswell any time soon, and even if he does come back it would be good for him to have competition and would free up Johnson to compete with Coufal on the right).
Centre half - left footed for me, and an organiser. Both Diop and Dawson play better alongside such a player but together they are a disaster. He can then compete with Ogbonna if he ever does come back at the level he was in the future.
Striker - we all know this and have done for some time. No it won’t be easy to find one but that’s what these people are paid for and hopefully the new recruitment chap might have some ideas.
Fredericks, Masuaku, and Yarmalenko can all be moved on if possible to help fund this although I suspect that we have been looking for suitors for all three for a while now.
In the summer we would then need to add a central midfielder or two and a right winger at the least, and could also offload one of Dawson or Diop (more likely the latter would have interest).
It is a lot to ask, but this is where we are now - we have a first team that is good enough to compete for top six (top four on a good day) but a squad as a whole that is mid-table. The next two windows are where Sullivan and co really show whether they are committed to giving a sustained improvement a real push or not.
