Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
|
Lots of talk here that he is about to invade Ukraine.
NATO and the US won’t get involved but heavy sanctions have been threatened and Putin has threatened ending all diplomatic ties with the west.
Latest is that Putin will stage an attack making it look like Ukraine starts the conflict.
What’s being reported over there?
Is it about to kick off?

They definitely have not completely re-built Mariupol, that will take decades, some of it will never be re-built.
They have built some decent looking apartment blocks however, its an achievement, but the City will probably have to be completely re-planned.

Tony Blair visited the Kremlin even before Putin was president; not too soon however, to know all about what Putin was from UK intelligence sources, who will have briefed him on the Moscow apartment block explosion and the 2nd Chechen war

Russia assumes the presidency of the United Nations Security Council today - a group of countries charged with maintaining international peace, settling disputes and combatting international acts of aggression.
That's a bit LOL.
Just goes to show how pointless these unions are.

Yes. That's why I used a figure of 5,000 instead of 10,000.
You can halve that again if you like. It still makes Sergei mistaken by a factor of, ooh, half of WW2.

That link does not support the claim Mariupol has been “completely rebuilt”. It clearly states the plan is to finish work in 2035. On the other hand, your head honcho visited the part that had been done up the other day and went around looking at things. Or so it seemed on TV.
I take it your last bar mitzvah didn’t go down all that well, did it boy.

A year to completely rebuild a city? Oh yeah that’s completely feasible, it’s not like there’s a war on so there should be plenty of labour

What a complete load of bollocks that is, they're saying a new recruit entering Bakhmut will last for 4 hours, that's it, that's not season troops already there, or a fully trained soldier returning from his unit from R&R,.

Let's examine Sergei's claim.
There are currently about 10,000 Ukrainians defending Bakhmut - let's assume half of them are recruits.
So, at a four hour life expectancy, that means 5,000 * 6 (24hours is a day divided by 4 hours) or 30,000 recruits are dying every day (that's dying not wounded, unless 'life expectancy' has a different meaning in Ukraine), 30,000 times 110 days (that's how long the Russian offensive in actual Bakhmut has been) is 3.3 million dead. Assume the standard 3 to 1 killed to wounded ratio and that's 13.2 million dead or wounded. Not a problem you might say, because, as we know, all the Ukrainians are coming back to fight without any arms or legs.
Now let's look from the Russian side. The standard ratio of casualties for attacking forces in an urban area is 7 to 1. Let's assume all these Russian convicts and conscriptees are especially, brave, well-trained and well-equipped. So let's make it 5 to 1.
That means the Russians must have lost 66 million dead and wounded in the last 110 days. More than in the whole of WW2 and over a quarter of its entire population.
But I'm sure Sergei has it right.

The situation described in the linked articles indicates the Kremlin is about to achieve those aims. Yet you say there is no timeline and certainly no criteria for making sure the gains are not disaster areas.
Got a link addressing this basic aspect, saddo?

So, it's like one Corporal or something? And it's not multiple sources, it's one source reported several times.
And if it were true, it wouldn't have taken the Russians 110 days to advance 20 blocks.

Russia's objectives have been stated clearly and repeatedly and at no time has Russia put any timeline on them.

Yes saddo.
How about addressing the nice basic question about the Kremlin's war aims and the condition of the territory once it has occupied it?
