Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
|
Lots of talk here that he is about to invade Ukraine.
NATO and the US won’t get involved but heavy sanctions have been threatened and Putin has threatened ending all diplomatic ties with the west.
Latest is that Putin will stage an attack making it look like Ukraine starts the conflict.
What’s being reported over there?
Is it about to kick off?

I often wondered how we ended up with a simp like Gavin Williamson in a position of political leadership.
Then I read this
"What's grown up about refusing to say that Russia shouldn't invade it's neighbours and should go home?"

No goose, you really haven't
Stating that supplying arms to Ukraine is a more effective strategy against Russia than sanctions is in no way the same thing as opposing the Russian invasion.

Goose, your position is abundantly clear insofar as you support Russia’s occupation of Eastern Ukraine and Crimea.
In addition I strongly believe that you think Ukrainian defence of its sovereign territory is an act of naked aggression against an innocent party.

I’ve typed it at least twice today.
I’m not sure how much clearer I could be.

You haven't made your standpoint clear. For 6 months you've been refusing to do so. Including right now.

Nope.
Petulant is demanding someone say something totally irrelevant after they’ve made their standpoint clear.

Inflation was coming for both, but sanctions have made both worse.
You cannot remove a big chunk of energy supply from the market and not expect it to push up prices.
And then the price of energy and availability of fertiliser drives food prices.

I hear you but you are looking at symptoms not the cause, akin to Covid accelerating the massive change in retail purchase from shop to online/home delivery, it was coming but just came quicker
The global energy/food situation was always in retrospect heading to a cliff - because the very global system and who initiated and maintained it was slowly withdrawing from it - it's just coming home earlier than anticipated
Not least of course because of the very demographic influences that prevail in nearly all the main players
The winners in all this will be the USA, Mexico and India primarily

The conversation has got a bit mixed up with talk of China.
I’ve said it enough times on here, but (for me) the economic sanctions are causing huge second & third order consequences on global energy & food. How far into this war are we? 6 months? I don’t see Russia slowing down or backing down because of those sanctions. I see global energy & food crisis being made worse by sanctions.
The other thing they’ve done is push countries like Russia & China closer together.

Yes, in fact the property bubble reflects a third of their GDP I read this week, borne of a convergence of perfect circumstances, a one off opportunity which fueled their entire economic growth Inherent corruption, questionable mortgage lending practices and systematic nepotism has resulted in a cliff edge of monumental proportion The demographic implications confirm the outcome as unavoidable - China is fucked

I beg to differ, sanctions have been a massive lever in deterring China and I'm minded that was the purpose, a demonstration of what would befall them if that bounced too far
Russia is a massive net exporter of food, products to produce food and energy China is the diametric opposite, it is the world's largest importer of all three and reliant upon export
Sanctions would scuttle China as we know it within a year
And of Russia, militarily the West can only fight it by proxy, preferably on someone else's land far from the US, a direct conventional conflict would be over in days, so nukes come into play - a stagnated and slow self flagellation is/was and will remain the optimum solution
Not ideal for Ukraine, but as in WW2, to the victor the spoils - the USA

The Chinese economy is on the cusp of recession and their banking sector is riddled with property bad debt. They might be provoked into doing something silly in the South China Sea/Taiwan but somehow I don’t think that’s their way. They’ll prefer to keep Russia as their bitch and muddle through the hard times.

Barty Demographics are at the route of all this sudden (not) drama becoming an issue, having heard about it's impact and read further it will undoubtedly bring an end to the globalization of commerce and social structure to which the post WW2 world has become accustom We live in interesting times
And as a footnote, a desperate Putin this week announced a new medal and payment of 1m RUB to mothers who produce 10 (TEN) kids! FFS, like that will solve the problem

“I read something the other day that said the US have run a conflict in the South China Sea & pacific sea through their simulators and have lost every time.'”
My god that stinks of pro-Russian doesn’t it?? Have a word with yourself Surface.
As you well know, I’ve not talked about the military goings on in Ukraine once. In fact if you bothered to read the post & not the poster you’ll know all along I’ve said: 1. Economic sanctions aren’t working and are harming innocents. 2. Military support is working so carry on with that.
Again it stinks of pro-Russia doesn’t it?? Duh.
