Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
Lots of talk here that he is about to invade Ukraine.

NATO and the US won’t get involved but heavy sanctions have been threatened and Putin has threatened ending all diplomatic ties with the west.

Latest is that Putin will stage an attack making it look like Ukraine starts the conflict.

What’s being reported over there?

Is it about to kick off?

The Ukrainians have denied reported claims that recent rocket attacks on the city of Belgorod, 40km inside the Russia, were their work.

Utterly risible. For reasons too massively obvious to mention, I would not regard as even slightly reliable any interviews carried out by a Western TV crew in Luhansk.

Lysichansk has been knocked off a lot quicker than Severo Donetsk or Mariupol was.

Yeah, seems that way to me. Ukraine have already lost

Re: Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
To be honest Pickle, since the conflict started its become easier and easier to work out the reporting style of each side, the various state media outlets, independent content providers as well as official govt departments.

Ukraine govt makes quite a few easily disprovable statements, sometimes you can understand why (operational reasons, or to boost morale and encourage their people not to give up) - ghost of kiev, the defenders of snake island who were all martyred, counter attacks in Severo Donetsk that didn't happen, whereas Russia tends to just not report on an operation that goes wrong or an advance that fails - the first crossing of the Siverskiy Donetsk river for example.

Funnily enough, the BBC has been one of the better reporters of the war, but its not particularly high praise as the standard of reporting of all main stream media in Ukraine has been appalling. TV France is probably about the best one, their film this week in Lugansk was very interesting where they interviewed locals - did you see it?

More garbage - Lysichansk has been continuously under attack since the attempt to take Kiev and Kharkiv was abandoned.

Don’t try to be clever, Sergei - you’re happy to accept the BBC’s reporting of Kremlin sources without question. Clever has certainly never entered your city, let alone does clever have it under control.

Re: Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
Kaiser

There is still fighting in the southern half of the city's residential areas and one factory at least. Ukraine pushed quite a few recently mobilised locals into the fight as well as foreign troops. The locals will probably surrender quite quickly once surrounded, but I'm guessing some of the foreigners will fight on having seen how foreign fighters are treated by DPR/LPR.

Its worth bearing in mind that a lot of the street fighting is being done by Chechen Special forces on behalf of Russia, they are experts at this and seem to be upping their game. Lysichansk has been knocked off a lot quicker than Severo Donetsk or Mariupol was.

Is being unable to distinguish between being in a city and controlling it a feature of “thinking for yourself”?

Re: Is Putin about to make a big mistake?
Are you claiming that the BBC is a kremlin source? They may have been before 1991, but the BBC doesn't seem to like Russia any more after the communists were kicked out
