West Ham one season wonders
|
Was thinking how good Vaz Te and Llunga appeared for us in their first season before quickly displaying their true level. Any other standouts?
Hoping Soucek doesn't join the list

Burrows was good for us but Everton came in and offered us Cottee plus another £500k on top as a swap - obviously too good to turn down.
Marsh was meant to have got homesick and moved on to Coventry but then ended up in Turkey and then Southend Utd. Didn’t do a lot after he left us really.
That was back when scousers coming down south was akin to us southerners moving to Spain.
Almost a different country and they didn’t tend to settle.

Was Peter Burrows the brother of David Burrows? I don't remember the former signing along with Mike Marsh. Maybe it was a two for one deal.

Kitson, I seem to recall, was one of those players who aren't very good at carrying injuries, and had a back problem.

Mike Marsh & and Peter Burrows both done a job for us although they probably didn't have much say in there moves hence the shortness of stay. Mark Vivien Foe (RIP) In the championship or old first division Peter Butler & Jimmy Quinn.

Paul Kitson is a good shout.
Was better than Hartson in his first season. The hype around Kitson was massive.
Then got eclipsed by Hartson.
Not knocking him, he's a hero of that era and those 2 kept us up when we were written off as DOOMED.

Putting Soucek and Coufal in same category as Schemmel and Illunga. Surely that's fishing?

How is August to December a season? In addition he had some games in that period where he just didn't turn up.

Payet???
Come on, he only ran past about 8 Boro players and past the keeper before slotting it home - that was in the autumn in his second season.
He obviously wanted out but was still great on the pitch.

Diafra Sakho - had a great first season when he even won the Premier League player of the month.
Badly hit with injuries for the 2.5 years after that when he got sold back to France and has done nothing of note since.
