Europe League 2022/23
This needs a fresh thread.

My curiosity delved me to dig deeper into who qualifies for next season.

The way I see it England only have 2 teams qualifying directly.
5th place and FA Cup Winners.

This differs from everything I've read or supposed.
Only 21 teams qualifying. The rest,37,come from being Eliminated from the CL.
The other league placings go in the Conference Cup.

Pretty shit affair if you ask me.
Be crap in the CL and you still carry on regardless.

Looks like we have to win the Cup or EL the.
Can someone please tell David Moyes right away.

What we need to do in win the EL and a as a result Spurs get bumped down to the ECL again. That will do me.

Now if we win europa epl clubs are 5 and if Leicester win conference europa is 3 ( get the place back Liverpool just lost us )

8 English teams in Europe? Not allowed. Maximum of 7 allowed.

Re: Europe League 2022/23
As liverpool won league Cup like City last year it in affect gets put back in the European pool. Leaving 5th place and FA cup winner, this was either Leicester or Chelsea so went ro 6th which was originally conference , which under similar circumstances is 7th and law of averages will be the same again. Now if we win europa epl clubs are 5 and if Leicester win conference europa is 3 ( get the place back Liverpool just lost us ).so epl has 4 champs league 3 europa 5th fa cup but will go to 6th if CL team or europa qualifiers win it league Cup but Cl league qualifier wins it is affectively lost . Conference is 6th unless facup is won by CL team or already europa league qualified team so falls to 7th. Gets more complicated if we win europa . Like Alan partridges World Cup wheel.

Does anyone know if there is any way EL qualification can go down to 7th?

No, it can't. It would be Europa Conference.

Westy - Sure, but last season wasn't.

6th spot nearly always gets you EL now, as a top 4 side usually wins the FA Cup.

Does anyone know if there is any way EL qualification can go down to 7th?

Personally, I don't fancy the Conference. Yes, I know it's still Europe and fans can have trips etc, but it's a poxy comp, Leicester are barely getting a mention being in it?

Yes, but a lot more fun, than trying to predict how many points are needed, to avoid relegation.

I remember this topic was flogged to death towards the latter stages of last season and there were mass inquests after every game about who or what may qualify you, it's fucking exhausting.

Fwiw, I suspect it will be the same this season, ie 5th/6th EL, 7th ECL.

Re: Europe League 2022/23
The wiki article clearly says England gets 2 direct allocated spaced. The 37 refers to the drop-outs from CL qualifying not the group stages where only 8 teams drop down. This has not changed from last season with was the first with Europa conference league.

Think we should get this one out of the way first.

Leicester are in the Conference League.

Yes, my mistake.

However, if they win it, they get a Europa League place next season. So if they do that and the FA cup is won by a team outside the top 5, no league qualification for next year's Europa League.

That’s what makes think that the Conference League would be better for us next season.

A competition we could genuinely win.

What a pile of shit the Europa is if there are more CL losers in it than those that have qualified from the season before

5th place and FA Cup Winners.

That is the base position.

However ,as we know, if a top 5 placed team, wins the FA cup, it releases another Europa league slot to the league.

England are allowed 7 teams in all European competitions, a maximum of 5 in the Champions' League.

So, if the Champions' League was won by Man United and they finished say 6th and Leicester won the Europa League and finished mid table, they would qualify for the Champions' League. If the FA cup was won, by a team outside the top 6 as well, that would mean no Europa League place to the league.

You would have 5 Champions League qualifiers ( top 3 in the league, plus Man United and Leicester. The FA cup winners, get Europa league and the 6th place team Europa Conference.

An unlikely scenario, I grant you.

Potential to be worse, in that the Europa Conference winners, qualify for the following season's Europa League, but Spurs stuffed up, that one. And i don't see Liverpool finsihig outside the top 5, so the league cup Europa Conference place, is released to the league.

If we got drawn against Dynamo Kiev, I’d probably give that one a miss.

This didn’t need a new thread.

Anyway, I would be delighted with us being in any European competition next season.
