Tonight's ref

Missed a couple of things but otherwise excellent. Can the Prem league stick in a bid for him?

I thought he was poor as well. Let them get away with a lot of play acting and fouling while punishing us for things he was letting them off for. He let Antonio get fouled again and again.
They were time wasting from the outset and feigning head injuries from most corners or attacks. Cynical but it works. The only thing the ref seemed to pick them up fro was that 9 trying to walk the long way off the pitch.
However thats the cynical way a lot of those teams play and we dealt with it pretty well, and we will likely have to deal with it again in the next round too.

I disagree
Although last night's referee was considerably better than the useless, incompetent referees we suffer in the premiership, he was probably the worst referee we've faced so far in the Europa
He got conned by non-existent fouls from their play-acting players and many several incorrect calls The referee for the first leg at Sevilla however, was absolutely excellent and I remarked on how good he was at the time
That said I would prefer any of the referees we've seen in Europe over any of our premiership referees

Re: Tonight's ref

the thing with European games is that they ref them so there just isn't the level of tackling and bullying that we see in the PL.
Overall I think that helps our team as we are more of a passing side nowadays. When Antonio got beaten up by that Leeds defender the other day we got nothing from that. That would never happen in European games like this.
I think the ref just tries to set the standard by pretty much saying European football is a non contact sport. The problem is European teams use that to fake so much stuff its silly.
But overall it actually favours us I think.

I've also been a ref for 20 years albeit at grassroots.
I thought he fell for their play acting a ridiculous number of times. When Dawson won the header, their player crumpled to the floor, we continued for a couple of seconds and then he gave the free kick because they were appealing... That was bizarre.
And when Fornals clearly won the ball right in front of ref and the ref gave a free kick.
And the free kicks against Antonio at corners. I couldn't see most of them. But the one I could see where I was watching Antonio the whole tone, Antonio was standing still in front of the keeper. The keeper went around him and jumped into his own player. Ref gave a free kick. Antonio appeared to be saying to the ref that he's allowed to stand still, which he is.
He wasn't biased but was poor

I thought he was pretty terrible. One moment when we where on the attack and a Sevilla player went down, clearly nothing wrong with him. Ref fell for it and stopped the game.
Should have booked En-Nesyri for his shameful acting too, and asking for him to book Dawson. Can't stand cunty players that do that, it should be an automatic booking.

He was more worried about booking Nolan than clamping down on the gamesmanship Sevilla used from the first minute.
The amount of time wasting throughout the game and only 1 minute added time each half? Him giving 2 minutes at the end of extra time showed me heโd lost the game. Shocking display

He reminded me of the ref against Villa.
He fell for the time wasting but at least forgot to add anything on in each half.
Felt like we got our first free kick of note in extra time!

He was below average, not as good as the 2st leg. Some cynical fouls by Sevilla but no yellow given. Then books Cresswell for going down with cramp which several of Sevilla players had done before and no action taken. Ridiculous.

In a general sense, I cringe at the vitriol aimed at refs. Played 30 years, reffed and played a further 10. Have a bad game as a player and you get an arm round the shoulder and the piss taken in the change room. Have a bad game as a ref and you get some pretty savage criticism, often from both teams as well as the crowd. It can be pretty dispiriting. I would never call a ref a cunt, except Mike Dean, of course.

French cunt took until the 3rd minute of extra time to give us anything. Seville got away with loads of snidey little fouls, whilst we got pulled up for not applauding their amateur dramatics.
But who cares. We won. Weโre through. Irons!
