Team for Burnley?
Who will line up against mangerless Burley after our epic Europe League performance?

I think Coffee put it perfectly on the Saturday thread:
"The players will be exhausted after four tricky games already played in April and, after today, the prospect of another five games (Chelsea, Arsenal, Norwich and Eintracht Frankfurt twice) in the next fortnight. Would David Moyes consider introducing players on the fringe of the first team for this encounter? Somehow I doubt it. He’s a demanding drill-sergeant."
(Hope that's ok Coffee?) http://www.westhamonline.net/forum_flat.php?9913609%7C%7C1%7C%7C

So where might the changes be?
As far as I know all players from Lyon were good at the end and I haven't heard of any knocks.
Fabianski in for Areola
Cresswell in at LB, who at RB Coufal, Johnson or Fredericks, perhaps Coufal gets a chance to ease back and a rest?
CBs no options?
Midfield, any of these could come in, Benrahma, Vlasic, Noble, Kral!?

I'm thinking like Coffee, not many changes

Fabianski
Johnson, Dawson, Diop, Cresswell
Soucek, Rice
Bowen, Lanzini, Fornals
Antonio

Really fine balancing act for the final 9 games of the season. Great shame that Moyes doesn't seem to trust his squad players but this is the game that he should make a few changes IMO.
If we had another 1st team squad CB I would rest Dawson but that's looking unlikely... if we lose him we would be really fucked. Kral has played CB but I can't see Moyes doing that.

The fringe players will be wanting to bust a gut to be involved.
Guaranteed starters for the Semi ?
Areola
Dawson
Rice
Soucek
Fornals
Bowen
Antonio

4 places up for grabs
I've left out Cresswell as apart from his odd set piece he's been relatively average. If Johnson can keep on banging in those crosses form the left he could get the call as his pace will be required.
I think Vlasic is really up for grabbing a place or being first choice up front. His enthusiasm and encouragement of late makes him a team player. Benrhama on the other hand needs to really play to a much higher level. If he doesn't perform now with the incentive of a semi final place and potentially the final then we need to get rid.

Players love 2 games a week. It means more game time, and less training.

Same team for me, roll the Northern cloggers over, stay match fit and keep the winning mentality going. Injuries? Well, they often happen in training so there’s arguably little benefit from resting players who’ll have to train if they’re not playing. How many players have Liverpool rested in the last few matches?

Re: Team for Burnley?
Tough call this.

Massive roll of the dice on Europa - all in and just hope we win in Seville - keep our best team for that competition - namely protect Dawson, Rice, Antonio and Bowen. Also blood a young CB as if any injury or suspension one of them has to play if Zouma don’t recover from his ankle.

Get Yarma, Vlasic, Kral, Noble, Fredericks on the pitch, give OkoFlex some minutes and play Benrahma.

The game vs Man U in the cup this season we did well and that had a midfield of Kral and Noble, Fredericks and even Fuka played in that. Out fringe players aren’t completely useless so maybe give them a run.

It’s a fucking tough decision, don’t envy Moyes one bit.

Re: Team for Burnley?
I would not “rest” Rice. He’s a bit of a machine. I think he can handle the run in and Europe.

I’d rather give Soucek a rest. Maybe Rice/Nobes in the middle with Vlasic in Front?

Would be good to see Ogbonna on the bench if he’s ready. Having another CB option for the run in is essential, as we all know Moyes won’t play the U23s.

Fabianski
Coufal Dawson Diop Cress
Rice Noble
Bowen Vlasic Benrahma

About time Vlasic started in his supposedly best position…And scored..

Last chance to show he’s worth keeping …

Who got conned to pay so much for him…???

Re: Team for Burnley?
Tricky one, this. Moyes won't want to see another performance like the one at Brentford any more than the rest of us. So what's the cause for the gulf between the Brentford and Lyon games? Tiredness? The players didn't look tired against Lyon, but you have to remember that tiredness isn't just physical. Motivation is almost certainly a factor, and Moyes will have to do something to raise the players. I know he has been persevering with the same small group of players, but I think tomorrow he will make more of an effort to rotate the squad a bit.

Two ways of doing that - either start with a few squad players in the side and have reinforcements ready to come on from the bench if needed. Or start with all the first choice players with the intention of replacing some of them if/when we're comfortable. And there's the rub - if we're not comfortable he won't make the changes. Oh well, at least there's a full week until the Chelsea game.

I agree with what daveyg said about giving Alese some minutes, and I would also like to see some involvement for Noble, Benrahma and Vlasic and Yarmolenko. .

Strongest side possible. Once again Spurs and Arsenal lose. We HAVE to win this game and try and secure top 6. Said the same against Brentford and we screwed it up. Surely not at home to Burnley???

Re: Team for Burnley?
I agree that selecting the strongest side for the league isn't the way to go. But not because of 'tiredness' which I think is a myth. No one was tired against Lyon or Sevilla.

The problem is, as Soldo said, a lot of players are saving themselves for the Europa games.

Too many players know that they will be picked in every game. We need players who might be hungry and who want to force their way back into the first team.

Yarmo? Noble? Noble may not be able to force his way into the first team, but he will be hungry.

Re: Team for Burnley?
Very seldom criticise Moyes now but selecting the strongest team available for the Brentford match didn't exactly work too well! Perhaps time to rest one or two key players but have them available on the bench.

Re: Team for Burnley?
Cheers, Mex.

Unless there's been something going on between Dyche and his players, Burnley won't be enjoying a new manager lift. They'll probably be demotivated as well as stressed by their league position.

Given that our most urgent requirement is for someone to partner - or replace, when needed - Antonio up front, this would seem like an ideal chance to have another look at young Perkins or anyone else who can score goals. If that doesn't work, have Antonio ready as an early second half sub.

Re: Team for Burnley?
Fab,Coufal,Cresswell,Johnson,Lanzini,Benrhama, Diop and Vlasic have not played that much over the last month.. All are playing for a place in the semi- final. You could also throw in Noble and Yarmolenko into the mix but you could say those two should only come on for the last 10 minutes.
Thus it's Rice,Soucek,Dawson,Fornals and Antonio we have to look after.
My thoughts are that if Zouma is out of the semi finals then we really need to look at Alese in 1 game should anything happen to Dawson or Diop.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with twoleftfeet here not since agreeing Dave Weedings knees had gone.
The only difference is Vlasic in for Noble pushing Fornals back with Lanzini. Noble can come on and make a cameo. Rice can come on for Soucfor the last 20.

Diop
Alese

Fornals
