It won’t be because we have short memories it’ll be because we moved to a 60,000+ seater stadium and filled it……we need to see there was a good reason for this…..

Agree Mex

Keeping us in tge top 10 for 4 successive seasons would be a first I think? An achievement in itself such is our poor performance in the Premiership and old first division since 1957/58 when we got up into the top tier. Our success has only ever been in cup competitions.

But the financial divide and barrier is now far greater. The rich 4 - 6 clubs have won virtually everything over the last 10 years with the odd exception ( Leicester the stand out ).

And we are still trying to get the foundations in place.

Moyes will need to deliver a cup in the next few seasons even if he becomes our most successful manager in terms of final league place. Supporters ( well human beings) soon adjust expectations upwards and have very short memories.

In fact a run of games without a win or a few defeats ( say 4 or more ) and those with a conscious bias or confirmation bias etc. will be “ baying for blood” and his removal. Even a cup win may not be enough for many.

Don’t see why we would sell Benrahma.

Last season showed we need a bigger squad with serious competition. Benrahma offers that.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
First day win would be good, realistically it’s going to be tough to get in that top 6 ever unless one of them implodes but don’t happen often. Cups depends on the draw I’m afraid

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
I think Stubbos prediction is pretty unlikely. The most likely prediction would be that Moyes keeps us top half of the table for as many years as he is our manager and doesn't win anything. I hope he keeps improving us though and wins us something. I think especially the people he is getting into his management team show that he is going for winning trophies and I hope some come. It ain't going to be easy though, but it will be interesting. Looking forward to some more signings and the next season. A first day win would be massive.

fromage - Yea, that's the thing, if Benrahma is sold we need to trust Moyes that he's only done it as he someone better lined up to replace him, if not don't sell him.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Looking at it dispassionately, there are very few players in the squad who couldn't be upgraded if the objective is a regular top six challenge. The difficulty right now though is that selling any more of a very small squad further complicates a situation where we already need to recruit another six bodies.

Lefty - As I said one post down he might be selling Benrahma to recoup funds to replace him? is it that hard to get your head around?

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Any chance someone could add Areola to the 'players signed' section?

If we sign Danjuma (hopefully), then he is the replacement for the already departed Yarmolenko.

We shouldn't be selling Benrahma.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Selling Benrahma will also be about recouping funds for other players, not sure who'd want him though apart from Brentford, or maybe the 3 clubs that come up.

I don't disagree, but I don't think Moyes has ever really rated him. I reckon he'll be gone by the end of the window.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Be mad to let Benrahma go, need depth and he did contribute 17 goals and assists last year no matter what people think of him

Stubbo 12:09 Thu Jun 30

You make some points which are fair, finishing 7th doesn't tell the whole story, missed opportunity in January, too cautious etc.

I don't think however there is a chance he'll be gone by Christmas as you've said in one of your posts below, unless somehow were bottom of the league like we were under Pellegrini in 2019 - which seems unlikely.

I sort of agree on Lingard, but if signed I still think he'll produce more than Lanzini who is currently holding that position in the team. So while we could sign better, I think he does improve the first team as it stands.

You've pointed out he screwed up the best opportunity in decades, but does he at least deserve credit for getting us in that position...even if he did ultimately fuck it up. We haven't had a manager that's done anything like that since Pardew took us to the cup final.

For me I'd give last season 7/10, which isn't bad, but it could have been the best season in about 40+ years. I think Moyes realises it though and that came out a bit in the press conference after Brighton.

Good start to the transfer window, unlike last year we've already got a couple over the line and look like were lining up a 40m winger. Hoping this level of ambition is a sign that he's going to have a proper go this season.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to sell Benrama or Diop.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Assume Benrahma will be sold then.

Can't make my mind up on this Danjuma, his name sounds like it could be Dutch for Dan James.

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Fabrizio Romano just tweeted we’re pushing ahead with move for danjuma just under 45m euros apparently

Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
Stubbo, you’re not exactly sticking your neck on the line by saying that Moyes will take us backwards. In fact we’re probably massive favourites to do just that, especially with Newcastle about to join the big six at the top.

Stubbo 12:09 Thu Jun 30
Re: Official Transfer Rumours and Gossip Thread
It's just my opinion that will either be borne out or it won't.

Can't deny for a minute the fantastic things he's done for the club compared to where we were two seasons ago. But it's business, and his job is to not make fundamental and obvious mistakes...he can lose games of course, but making mistakes in decision making is what will cost him.

His in game management is sub par. His substitutions are at best reactionary. He's totally risk averse to the point of constraining his scope of achievement. And he screwed up the best opportunity any West Ham manager has had in decades...yes he carved out the opportunity....but beating 5 players and then sticking it wide with the keeper to beat doesn't put much credit in the bank.

My prediction is that having taken us forward, he'll now start taking us backwards. We'll become ever more workmanlike, ever less creative, ever more predictable, and he'll leave with us back in the lower half of the table.

Just a prediction. Perfectly reasonable for others to totally disagree....it's a message board...if we all had the same opinion it would be pretty dull.

It’s not being outraged it’s being absolutely flabbergasted how fucking stupid some people on here are.

Yes the last couple of months of last season were disappointing but if you just judge it on the whole season then it’s been great. Judge it over 2 seasons and it’s been amazing.

The last thing we need is another change of manager. We need consistency. It’s the only way to build.

I’m fed up with sacking managers every couple of years and hoping the next fresh thing will be better. It’s just not worked that way.

If we sacked Moyes now, the footballing world would think we had gone crazy.

I think there is plenty of wind up merchants on here so I would never take any of them seriously.

My view is how exactly are we doing?

Alright.
