Re: Taigs take control of Northern Ireland
Sinn Fein have not taken control of NI. Far from it. They failed to increase their number of seats. The SDLP lost seats (5), so did the DUP (3). The two republican Greens were wiped out. There are 35 avowedly republican representatives (SF and SDLP) and 35 avowedly unionist representatives (DUP, UUP and TUV) who are in parties. There is also a bonkers republican Communist and two unionist Independents. That's 37-36 in favour of the Union.

The big winners were the neutral (but inclined to be somewhat Unionist) Alliance, who now have the balance of power with 17 seats, a massive gain of 9.

Given that the First Minister and Deputy First Minister are equal in stature, NI is probably further away from reunion with Ireland than it was before the election. However, that isn't as exciting a story as the one the MSM are peddling.

Of the 90 MLAs returned to Stormont 54 have no problem with the protocol.
The Unionist veto is alive and well

Only seeing your response.

Yes do tell what you believe to be the income threshold for the medical card.

I'm not that familiar with the NHS. Are you saying everyone in the UK gets free GP visits?

Both NI and Scotland voted to remain and people are surprised they want out of the UK and back in the EU.

More Scots voted for Brexit than voted for the SNP.

A decent tranche of SNP voters supported Brexit (from memory it was about a third)

You're a hypocrite, Hermite, and the poverty of that answer all but proves it.

Brexit will break up a union that has lasted 100s of years. Well done to those who voted for it,

Spazzies.

The main thing this will lead to is more unrest in Belfast and Derry and more innocent people losing their lives.

Re: Taigs take control of Northern Ireland
Surely you're either against leaving a long standing union or you're not. You can be against one instance of that and for it in another, just because it suits your agenda.

Unless you're a total cunt.

I don't get progressives. Surely this would be a win for you, Norn Iron unifying with the Irish Republic? It won't happen, of course, but hypothetically this is what you want.

You're praying for the nation to fail so we can rejoin the EU and that blows my mind.

Yep another great win for Brexit .

Pub Biggot: I was referring to why the Catholic population have switched from the SDLP to Sinn Fein - don't underestimate how the Irish civil war split between Nationalists and Republicans was still there but Brexit finally finished that.

NHS dental care isn't free at the point of delivery, except when the patient is on benefits, or the care is delivered in a dental hospital.

A bit Jesuitical to insist that MTR is a liar unless he's precisely right, when you're not, Hermit.

Re: Taigs take control of Northern Ireland
Hermit,
I will reiterate it was more ignorance of the benefits of the NHS than wilfull deceit with regards the HSE.
In Ireland we consider our healthcare system is 'free'.
The vast majority of the Irish citizenry consider the Irish healthcare system as being 'free'.
That includes Happy & me. We didn't lie.
It is more accurate to describe it as 'cheap' but even that is a relative term.
'Free' could also be considered a relative term as my medical expenses are reimbursed by my employer paid health insurance & some would consider that 'free'.

I did not set out to wilfully deceive you or anyone in relation to the Irish healthcare system.
It was a dearth of knowledge rather than an abundance of deceit.
I'm still pleading ignorance rather than malice.

“ Medical cards are widely held in Ireland. Do you actually know the income threshold? Or do I need to tell you”

Happy,

Less than a third of Irish have a medical card. Regardless, you asked how the Irish system wasn’t free. I don’t know why you asked me seeing as you clearly know that most people in Ireland have to pay to see a GP.

At the risk of repeating myself, I am not even criticising the Irish system which I think is better than the UK one. I’m just pointing at that for some weird reason a couple of Irish people on this thread decided to lie and pretend that it was free at the point of delivery like the NHS is.

Hermit Road 1:24 Sun May 8
Re: Taigs take control of Northern Ireland
Trent, be honest. Regardless of what you know about the NHS, you knew all along that in Ireland, people pay to see their GP, pay to spend the night in hospital etc unless they have an exemption. Despite knowing that you pretended that the Irish system was free for people like the NHS is.

Fuck it, it’s not worth arguing about someone who is going to bare face lie despite it all being in black and white in this page.

I find it odd to be honest.

Rios,
Jaysus I know what you mean.
The Irish government is throwing money at everything Ukraine refugee related.
Where I live has received several hundred Ukrainian refugees.
They are housed within half a mile of my house.
I'm also the chair person of the local GAA club.
I received a phone call from a local government official last week informing me that there are grants available to develop local amenities & that our GAA hall would be a prime candidate for funding due to the possibility that the Ukrainians might use it.

It seems so short term.
I doubt the Ukrainians would use the facility, they are more than welcome to use it, but it is short-termism.
In the medium term the hall will probably be sold to generate funds for other capital expenditure.
