Q: 2022/23 You are the Chairman what do you do with Moyes?
a. Stick with him obviously, he's delivered two good seasons back to back and will see us out of this dip in form
b. If we're still lingering around the bottom three by the start of the WC then that's the time to get rid
c. What are we waiting for 2 wins in the last 20 PL games is reason enough to sack him, go now
d. I've just got my new Orange & White 3rd Kit with Moyesinho on the back, I can't wait to wear it down to the supermarket, they call me Mr West Ham around here

Does Moyes plan to use wing backs?
I know that formations can change throughout the season (or even mid game) but is Moyes thinking about using wing backs as his main formation this year?

Rather than bidding for left backs or inverted left wingers, we’ve apparently been after Kostic and Cornet, both left footed players. With a player like Scamacca up front it makes sense to get more crosses in, but if we bought Kostic to play strictly as an old school winger then would that work in games Scamacca doesn’t play in?

In terms of squad numbers we have plenty who can play there if we switch to a back 3 (currently 5 dedicated centre backs plus Cresswell, Johnson, Rice and soon possibly Onana all able to fill in there).

We’d need 2 new left wing backs, with Masuaku gone and Cresswell not up to it, but then we would need a left back and a left winger otherwise anyway. Given the current squad makeup, some variation of 343 probably requires less cover than 4 at the back, which no doubt appeals to Moyes.

It gets worse ED, Moyes thinks he does in Cresswell & Johnson......

I wish we did have a functional left back for this coming season.

Seems a bit unfair to criticise him for buying cheap full backs when they're of the quality of Baines and Coleman. Coufal too was excellent in his first season.

In any case, I think it's only been the last 10 years or so when full backs have become more important as clubs rely on them instead of wingers for width. Before that I think full backs were always a lower priority for most managers.

I don't think Moyes has ever regarded the full back positions as anything more than functional.

Even at Everton he always seemed to promote youth players to cover those positions and he lucked out with Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines who he picked up for very modest transfer fees. Coufal was relatively cheap in today's market.

I might be wrong but it was something I always noticed during his Goodison Park days. He prefers to spend the budget elsewhere.

Yeah, agreed on Cresswell and Johnson. That's why I said we'd need two new left wing backs, but we need two new left sided players whatever formation we play.

If he wasn't planning to change formation then the chasing after Kostic just seems odd to me, given his age and that LWB is the role that's got him all those assists in recent years.

I hope not. Johnson's the only one capable physically to do the job down the left, but i still doubt his ability to add anything going forward. Cresswell is a liability wherever he playes. that Moyes is prepared to change to a formation that clearly doesn't suit our personnel is worrying
