English (PL) football games over the next week or so
|
Any thoughts, guesses how this will pan out? I would think this weekend's PL game will be off, even when Diana died the next round of games were postponed.
The official mourning period is 10 days, assuming that starts today, it ends next Sunday. IF they strictly abide by that maybe they could have a full fixture list on the Monday night as there are no European games that midweek, but what about the TV deals, etc.
The following weekend is an international break, so no way are three weekends of games being postponed.

Lack of broadcast vehicles was blatantly fake news
2 games due for live broadcast have been postponed because they were both high risk fixtures requiring significant police presence. They've been replaced by 2 others
Having been postponed the Brighton fixture was never going to be reinstated, regardless of the train strike. There are also other factors in play - not least the fact that the university car parks are unavailable that weekend and they are fairly critical

Dont quite understand this There was talk of Sky Sports losing out on broadcast vans to Sky News to cover Queenly events. So the two Sunday games due to be broadcast live are cancelled but then two OTHER games will be broadcast. And then rail strikes which were the spurious reason for Brighton v Palace being postponed are off and yet the game stays off.
Suspect Sky want to keep the Sunday games if not also Brighton Palace up their sleeve as midweek broadcasts later in the season without this weekends distraction

Absolute comedy gold, coming from someone who constantly whines about what other people post.

Qatar have stated that all their flights to the UK have very been booked full for the dates around the funeral with Royalists wanting to visit and pay tribute to HRH. With the current US Dollar rate making a visit to the UK a cheap fascinating FOMO option the expect similar amount of tourists from there too.

Must be hard work, constantly sticking your beak in to criticise virtually everyone on the forum.

Handy ready made get out for them with Scousers then. They can strategically cancel some of this weekend's games. Perhaps:
Us/Everton Chelsea/Liverpool Man U/Leeds
Where they can cite lack of/need for extra policing that isn't available.

The Arenal v PSV game has just been called off due to lack of police.

Whether WE like it or not, Liverpool are an enormous part of Brand CL/PL and all the scenarios will have been run through a computer to determine the best (financial - for them & the media) solution to this.
Pressure will have been applied and Brown Envelopes (in whatever guise) been exchanged.
If they feel scouse "fans" behaviour live on TV will cost them, the game(s) won't go ahead.

Probably more a case of logistics for the police than anything else as to whether games go ahead.
If the Scousers can't show a bit of respect and keep a civil tongue in their head, then I say let the rest of us see it and them for what they are and pass judgement.
No doubt the media would probably bend over backward to downplay, excuse, explain or justify their behaviour either way. Would be hilarious watching Klopp squirm if he's asked about it.

Even if the Liverpool fans disgraced themselves, as they are likely to do, it would hardly get reported on the BBC as it doesn't fit their agenda. Same as the lack of coverage of the appalling behaviour (as always) at the Notting Hill Carnival the other week, all we get is a few clips of the Met dancing the samba or whatever, which says it all really.

Cheers ERN… yeah was a proper shit day… deed done at home (back garden)… 14 years a foot soldier by your side or under your feet it’s weird they are not here anymore… still not 100% sure we got the timing right but in retrospect and probably time I will prob’ feel differently… got his ashes put in a Labrador urn that takes pride of place on the fire hearth… I give him a lucky pat before bedtime… however not been too lucky so far with her Madge’ going… so may have to rethink that strategy..!!
