Day 3 - Christmas in Denmark Street - Spizzenergi

There surely can't be any compilation of Punk/New Wave that doesn't include Spizzenergi's 1979 seminal  'Where's Captain Kirk?' Despite topping the Indie chart for seven consecutive weeks and selling well over half a million copies eventually, the band failed to crack the national chart with the sin...

I think the clue might be in the title, but I've just checked the first one, and it's still bloody good.

Day 2 - 'Christmas Alphabet' - Dickie Valentine

You thought yesterday was a bit populist, perhaps? Well, prepare yourself for Day 2.  'Christmas Alphabet' was not only a massive No: 1 hit but, providing you don't count the previous year's No: 1, Winifred Attwell's 'Let's Have Another Party,' as a Christmas Record - and I don't think we should - t...

Day 1 - 'Thank God It's Christmas' - Queen

It's been an emotional weekend in one way or another, so I thought I'd dive straight in with a couple of big Christmas hitters and try and get everyone on board quickly. There have been some suggestions over the years that the Calendar can get a little self-indulgent, but this gives lie to that, as ...

Re: Billy Blagg's 19th Annual Advent Calendar of Christmas Songs

Talking about Christmas before December should be a yellow card offence. Do your job Stubby cock son!
Vexed, last year, Stubby pinned the post to the top, so be careful what you wish for. Anyway, this is WHO, Christmas is in our hearts all year.

Billy Blagg's 19th Annual Advent Calendar of Christmas Songs

It's back for yet another year. From December 1st - 25th, the usual smorgasbord of chestnuts, turkeys, tasty morsels and stomach-churning leftovers. As usual, there is a page for the 19th Calendar at: https://blaggadventcalendarchristmassongs2025.blogspot.com/ The Home page for access to all the Cal...

Re: Who is our worst signing?

Derek was a top bloke and teacher at my old school. He scored 10 goals in 24 games for West Ham in one season,  he'd be our best player these days.  Good point well made. Wasn't he one of those who Bonds thought was a lazy, arrogant feck and disrupted the dressing room? I know BB loathed Ted McDoug...

Re: Who is our worst signing?

God, I remember doing a Blagg column on this back in the days when WHO was the Ironworks - yea, it's been that long smartarse - my winner was Derek Hales. His only claim to fame was his astonishing ability with facial hair. I once saw him turn out at v Coventry at Highfield Road clean-shaven before ...

Re: As I said Sacking Potter wasn’t the answer

He certainly isn't. Let's not forget Nuno is dealing with what Potter did - or rather didn't do - during the summer. Nuno is a proven Premier League boss with a good track record and needs to be backed in January and next summer (even if we go down). Potter was never the answer and it's long been ob...

How is it ridiculous, they've literally had to paint lines on the streets warning people not to walk in them with their phones out as they're likely to get snatched, 100,000 were stolen last year, its a whole industry They've 'literally' NOT had to do this. That was outside Curry's as a marketing...

Re: Jonjo Shelvey

Yes, it is. My late Mrs was from the North-East, so was up there a lot for a good many years. Great City, good people, and it's a football mad city with one big team to represent it, but I don't buy the rubbish about London. Nothing beats London. It's a capital city and of course, there's crime, but...

Re: Why have so many posters left this site?

I consider this place my 'home' and I don't go anywhere else, but I often don't visit for weeks on end. I don't think there's anything wrong with the site; I just think the whole way we interact on the internet has changed and people have just drifted to talking about things on other platforms.

Re: Potter Out

An awful appointment from the first; a knee-jerk 'who's available now we've sacked Lopetegui?' decision that was never going to work. I was always wary of his ability, but asked a Chelsea supporting colleague about Potter when his appointment was mooted and this bloke - who'd supported the Blues fro...

Essex CCC. Although it lapsed many years ago, I was a member for a long time. And oddly, Boston Red Sox from my first visit to the U.S. when I knew nothing about Baseball and tried to understand the appeal. I read about the Red Sox 'Curse of the Bambino' and how they always flattered to deceive and ...

Re: West Ham v Newcastle - 10th March (Official Match & Predictions Thread)

Agree with El Scorchio. It looked a draw for most of the time, even though Newcastle were obviously a superior side with more confidence, but once we went a goal down and Potter brought on players to chase the game, it died! OK you can argue that our attackers aren't any good, but what the hell did ...

Re: Graham Potter (announced)

Excellent summation Sir Alf. I think had he kept the lineup we had in the first half we probably could have got a draw but the fans would have been on his back. Around me all I can hear is 'Get it forward' but it's patently obvious we have no way of getting it forward as no one is available for the ...

It's staggering that Book only got a chance to play at the top level later in life and then won three trophies in three seasons. A top player who gave all to City.
