Re: Ron Greenwood and England
I think we have had some bad luck with injuries in tournaments over the years as well to be fair. The metatarsal curse with Beckham and Rooney, and Bryan Robson in 86 and 90 World Cups. I think he might have caught Maradona instead of poor old Peter Reid chasing, and whilst David Platt deputised ...

Re: Great article in the Guardian
Stopped reading when he wrote that we are an "East End" club. We're not. We are an east London club. And the distinction explains a lot about West Ham and its fans, which this bloke has just merged into the rest of London (including the plastic, soul-less City). Not surprising that a hack...

The Ersatz Coffee Weekend Football Thread - One Week Only
Saturday 20 September Liverpool vs Everton David Moyes makes a 23[sup]rd[/sup] attempt to win a game at Anfield and upset the Premier League’s only 100% record in the process. Liverpool’s flawless start to the campaign has not been totally convincing with a reliance on added time winners. Dey do do...

Re: West Ham vs Palace | PL | 20.9.25 | Predictions and Match Thread
In years past Palace at home would yield a reasonable expectation of a home win, but not this time. They are unbeaten and our relative home form is dire (We haven't won at home in how many?) and there could be a toxic atmosphere, if there even is one. Id feel more confident if we were away. 1-3 I...

I thought Palace had appealed Soucek's red card so that he could be available tomorrow.
Must have got that wrong.

No Statement at all would have been better than that Statement.
A clear indication they haven't listened, don't see the need for anything other than cosmetic change and believe they have done a great job!
An outstanding lack of self-awareness.

Re: If Potter would get sacked who would you want IN to replace him?
He's clearly not for us but I reckon Lampard will turn out to be a very good manager. He should never have taken the Chelsea job so early in his career.
As for Carrick, he wouldn't even be mentioned if he wasn't an ex-player.

Just read the club's statement and it appears our fears are unjustified. Everything's fine and there's no need for worry or change.

Sticking to financial viewpoint, although the stadium deal looks attractive from a rental perspective to what degree does it limit the club’s ability to generate the additional revenues. Having the second highest attendance but coming in 8[sup]th[/sup] or 9[sup]th[/sup] in matchday revenues is revea...

Re: If Potter would get sacked who would you want IN to replace him?
This is one of the worst top-flight West Ham squads I've ever seen. We've been relegated with better. So it's a precarious position, as we all know. Given that we have this group through to at least January - and probably beyond for 99% of the squad, in IMHO there are only a few available managers ...

Newcastle and Manchester City do not own their stadiums. But their deals provide exclusive use which allows them naming rights and to generate income from other events.

Re: Profit and Sustainability Rules
A couple of things to add on this discussion. The Premier League clubs themselves agree whatever financial rules apply. Thus, it was the clubs who decided last year to stick with PSR rather than change to a simpler squad cost ratio measure. Further, clubs playing in European competition must comply ...

Re: VAR - What is it good for?
As a reality check, Wolves put forward a proposal to scrap VAR just over a year ago and all the other 19 clubs voted against i.e. to continue with VAR.
Is the suggestion that the TV companies put pressure on the clubs to vote that way?
God knows why they see VAR as a positive for the game though.

Re: Profit and Sustainability Rules
The tricky bit is that the clubs vote for these rules themselves. Unless the regulator (is that in operation yet?) can force something unpopular on them.
