WHUFC Our new best XI.

Post the exile »

Yes, I know it's early days, but I thought it would be an interesting discussion. Obviously it depends partly on the formation that Potter settles on, but I'll go with the 4-3-3 that worked so well at Forest, or call it 4-5-1 if you like.

Hermansen - still gets the benefit of the doubt. Hope he settles.

KWP - he's made a good start and AWB is going to have to work hard to get his place back
Mavropnos - very good against Forest. Yes, I know the risks but I like the way he gets stuck in, unlike Kilman.
Todibo - still needs to justify his pricetag, but has got something about him.
Diouf - excellent signing. Don't think we're going to be seeing much of Scarles, sadly.

Paqueta - hopefully getting back to something like his best.
Magassa - ok, so we know very little about him, but I don't imagine Potter brought him in to sit on the bench. Also I'm very weary of watching Soucek and JWP.
Fernandes - encouraging start. All-round midfielder.

Bowen - possibly our only unquestionable starter.
Wilson - has looked decent when he's come on, and Fulkrug hasn't done enough.
Summerville - welcome back - like a new signing.

I somewhat agree.  I wonder if it's just because we're into an International Break so there is no game to think about.  Or maybe it just went 'off piste' too early' SWT

But I'll engage and lets see if we can get this thread up and running :)

As I've said on a few other threads, I think what we should be doing is getting our best match winners in the best position to contribute to winning matches.  So my 'best XI' is on that basis (and I caveat that it includes what I hope Magassa will be, having never seen him play).

However, what I think will happen and based on knowdege of him, is that Potter will continue to do what he thinks best counters the opposition (that's been a hallmark of his career) so there will be times that he goesback to 3/5 at the back (and it may even be that is still his '1st line' lineup, and the new mids will change the dynamic of it...who knows.

Anyway.

My lineup (for Spurs) would be (assuming all fit to start):
Hermansen

Walker-Peters   Mavropanos   Kilman   Diouf

Soucek  Magassa Fernandes

Bowen Paqueta Summerville
It's a toss up between Paqueta at 9 and a shuffle that brings in Wilson, and leaves out either Soucek or Summerville.  But Soucek is IMO still really important, as he offers too much in both boxes to be left out and is a match winner for us on regular occasions.

Paqueta has been really effective for us as a 'false 9', can have Soucek go beyond him, can drop in, and works hard from the front (and can then link up with Fernandes in advanced areas, whilst some what insulating us from his tendencey to give it away in deeper areas).

Wilson should be no more important to us than as an impact sub...he's not reliable enough phycially to be more than that frankly.

Also, Fullkrug has not shown enough to start ahead of Paqueta at 9, especially with Paqueta in fine goal scoring form (scored a back post header for Brazil last night so is now 4 from 4 this season).

Right now I'd say KWP has done enough to hold the shirt...long term I suspect Wan Bissaka wins the place back, especially in a back 4 (not in a 5 where KWP knows the role way better) but for now he's started poorly and loses the shirt...curse of HOTY?

Subs for me:

Areola, Todibo, Wan Bissaka, Potts, Irving, Earthy, Guilherme, Fullkrug, Willson

I recognise JWP will no doubt get the nod ahead of Potts or Irving, and if Rodriguez is still here he will probably get the other central mid berth on the bench.  I feel we need Earthy and Guilherme there to have the chance to blood our attacking youngsters.  I think Scarles is going to have to bide his time,

Anyway, that's what I think.  What do you make of that Exile?
Cheers Stubbo. So we disagree on Kilman, Soucek and Wilson. I must admit that there's little to choose between the CBs, though I've no idea about Julio yet. For me Kilman is a bit of a pussy, lacking aggression and initiative.

As for Soucek, I've just had enough of him. I totally get the argument that he's important in both boxes, but which area of the pitch has been our biggest problem? Yes, the midfield, and Soucek is a midfielder but is basically a passenger in there, weakening us in that area. I'm very disappointed that we haven't let him go.

Obviously Wilson has huge question marks over his ongoing fitness but when fit he is a bloody good striker so my view is that if he's fit, he plays.

Right, so you're that massive attention-seeking plank who used to be called faux-bear or something like that, among other names that you have used over the years. I wonder why you keep changing names. Probably some kind of deep insecurity and a reaction to the dogs abuse you get for posting such bollocks on here.

It's not as if things are thriving on here, there was no reason to close that. You're getting this proper wrong.

Save the long spiel about being the saviour, that was KUMB style wank.
Fair enough. Fixed...as you were (we all get it wrong sometimes)
Fair play, can't argue with that.
