I've always imagined Espanyol to be the "proper" football club in Barcelona, IE genuine local football enthusiasts as opposed to touristy wankers at Barca wearing half and half scarves and poncing about on their phones for the entire game.

Once upon a time Espanyol were very proud to be known as Español long after the infamous dictatorship ended. They also used it to court favouritism during the Franco era.
Barcelona fans never let them forget it - although the way they have run that club since Johan Cruyff snuffed it leaves a lot to be desired
