What a difference a game made. Last week, despair and not knowing where the next scrappily won point would come from.  Fast forward 5 days, and there is expectation that we see off Burnley like the upstarts they are, that Nuno has found the 'formula' and it's onwards and upwards from here.

Of course, these things are rarely ever black or white, and somewhere in the middle is more likely, but with the emergence of Potts from his bench-shackles, a reinvigorated and impactful Paqueta supported by colleagues that could operate on his wave length, and the energy of Fernandes, there were at least glowing embers in the previously distinguished firepit.

The Burnley game will also see pre-match protestation, with the (as of now) 16,000 signature petition delivered to the Club in printed form at the end of a 'Stratford to the Stadium' protest march, which should hopefully see also a positive mood and energy spill over into support.

Team wise, Nuno has hinted at some knocks from the previous game...but training videos looked to show all the main protagonists in attendance except Wilson.

Predicted line-up.

Hard to see anything but enforced deviation from the team that beat Newcastle.  Wilson maybe a lingering doubt.  Kante, Golambeckis and Myers continue to train with the first team, so it will be interesting to see if someone like Kante with his presence and stature can show enough raw ability to push past others to a place on the bench in the coming weeks.
Areola

Wan Bissaka  Kilman  Todibo  Diouf

Potts  Fernandes

Bowen (C)    Paqueta   Summerville

Wilson (Soucek)

Subs:  Hermansen, Igor, Myers, KWP, Irving, Soucek, Guido, Guilherme, Magassa.
Predicted Score:

Things at West Ham rarely run smoothly.  It wouldn't surprise me to see Burnley get the first gut-punch of a goal, and for us to then have to scrap tooth and nail to get something from the game. They have a good solid midfield, and have been clinical in attack thus far.  In what feels like a must not lose game, I could see a draw as an outcome, but hopefully buoyed by the Newcastle result, we find a way to prevail.

West Ham 2 - 1 Burnley.
(Bowen, Summerville)

You take out the goals made by both Bowen and Soucek, we'd be in a whole world of trouble in recent times. They've been so important to us scoring. They tend to force the issue instead of just waiting for opportunities to happen. A real quality to have, especially in our side full of weak mentalities that often hid not taking responsibility. 44 goals for West Ham now for Soucek. 38 in the Premier League.

I thought we took it to them in the last quarter of the game and got what we deserved. The rest of it we were second best. We may have found a new trick putting Soucek on as a target man off the bench, he certainly knows how to sniff out the goals and I think they'll be crucial yet again.

Nice to see the players respond after going a goal down, shows we still have a bit of a pulse.

Better effort and much better attitude. Not the best performance overall but a vast improvement from where we were.

Doesn’t get any easier but dare I say it there is hope.

Much needed 3 points, still a long way to go.

Soucek just keeps on bouncing back.

A great attitude and servant to the club

Now using his head effectively in both boxes and following iup to pick the scraps to score two in two.

You could stick him in goal and he would give it his best shot.

Will take the points but a bit of a smash & grab
Burnley will be bemused at going home with nothing
Thought Fernandes is getting better & better & Soucek shining in what I think should be his role of late sub to snatch a goal
Our squad feels thin especially with one striker in Wilson who can’t play 90mins
Hopefully Freddie’s injury isn’t too serious & the international break gives us 2 weeks to freshen up before Bournemouth on the 22nd

I thought it was good to see Summerville and Soucek making things happen today.

I've been critical of Summervilles end product and although not technically an assist, he still forced the issue with taking a chance shooting at goal which led to Wilsons header.

Soucek not only scored by doing his usual being in the right place at the right time act, he also forced the Keeper in to pushing the ball out towards Walker-Peters to tap home.

Both making big contributions to scoring which is great to see and I think a clear indication that it's a direction from the manager to say don't be afraid to shoot if in sight of goal. Something that clueless twat Potter has never understood, all the way back to the days of managing Brighton.

Hah!

Although what I would say is at least he's got it out his system and LEARNED from his horrific mistakes during that week of madness. It's managers who remain pig ignorant continuing to do moronic mistakes is where it gets really bad.
Agreed and at least this guy is open to looking for a solution to a problem. Soucek up top is evidence of this...instead of what the others have done which is push Bowen up there and shuffle everyone else.

Quite like the cut of his jib, despite the two games he went off reservation with.

Scrappy win, more than a little iffy at times! But the points were all-important.

Gotta make winning ugly a habit. Onto the break, and some hard work on the training ground.

Always liked Cullen. He would have been a good servant had he stayed but happy to see him have a decent career away from the Club. Tough little fucker too when he continued playing when he got his teeth smashed out during 1 game in the Cup.

Fernandes was outstanding and looking better each game and a word for Cullen he'd be a good signing I wonder where they got him from.

That next run of fixtures is the stuff of nightmares given how poor we've been. If in January we can be where we are now,  about level with bottom three, a window to sign a couple of reinforcements with an easier run of fixtures to come then id take that right now.

Very happy with another win in the bag back to back. We really did need that to get out of the deep hole we were in. Well done all. Keep it going now we have some momentum.

What's nice is the we are scoring enough goals to make teams really think about how they approach us. I think under Potter you just knew we'd offer next to nothing in terms of scoring opportunities. Now defenders will have decide how much they want to push up against us. Which hopefully alleviates the pressure we've been under.

Yes it bit nervy, but we'e just won 2 games at home b2b when I think the last time we won at home was Feb?? Thats madness for us. Im happy!

Its one of those where you say " we won and got the points we need" and move on as it gets a lot harder for the next few games.

Result is all that matters in the end.

Entertaining game, the goals came in spite of our 'top' players having a bit of a'mare.

Very sporting and comradely of Areola to use the last moment of the game to make Dubravka feel less bad about his goalkeeping - it's that kind of benevolence that makes this club so widely loved.⚒

Lets be honest, on the balance of play Burnley were the better side but ultimately their defence let them down a little more than ours.

As NYC says, we will remain in trouble without a Jan window addressing the lack of a striker, another CB and central midfielder with pace and strength.

But a win however fortuitous is all that matters.

MOTM Tommy Potatoe Salad Supersub Soucek
Other standouts: Paqueta, Fernandes, AWB and Todibo looked assured

Need to improve to get anything out the next run of fixtures but all in all a very good day 👍🙂
