Would you offer Moyes a new contract?

Post LJC »

"With David Moyes contract finishing at the end of the season and we fast approach the half way stage of the season, would you offer Moyes a new contract? (Might be worth doing as a WHO Poll). I personally wouldn’t, interesting to see Potter as huge favourite for our next manager and him turning down other roles (although could be waiting for England). Note Alonso sitting in the second favourite."

"The bottom line for me is could someone get more out of this squad, the answer is a definite yes from me. Yes he won the cup last year, but you would expect a PL team to win that most years of we're being honest. A lot of people's reservations are about Sullivan employing the correct manager... Which is risky (obviously none of us knew this before it was pointed out) but hasn't he just employed someone who is already proving to be good at recruitment and has a good record of finding the right coach. Let him do his job and find one, nobody needs to suggest three to that idiot RM10 who I'm sure wanted Moyes out last season. It's not our job, we have someone who's very good at it"

"Eerie Descent 1:05 Fri Oct 20 Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract? Well that says more about you than me. Most managers in the league fail - even ones with great track records. Most of ours fail in the end. It’s not complicated - poor in the league last year, cup win probably saved him. Side looks great and is performing well this year. It[s not complicated - the side keeps performing as it is not then yes, he fades badly and then look at other options."

Be utterly stupid to dump him now. If the start to the season continues then he absolutely has earned a new one. Not sure who people think is going to come in and do better. Odds are that any new manager would make us a lot worse. His league form last year was poor but it was the cup win that kept him in job.

When the fraud Pellegrini got sacked he had a better record than Moyes last season at the same point .. Yet that makes him a fraud and Moyes a hero? Not only that but Moyes got no more points that season when he took over from Pellegrini yet he wasn't sacked then either. Pellegrini may have done better if afforded the same chances as Moyes had..

"No thank you. New Manager required to move us to the next step.. We need to consistently play well against the top 6 and win.. Not just say we played well and deserved more, which is what Moyes does."

"Vexed 12:34 Thu Oct 19 Re: Would you offer Moyes a new contract? Fundamentally I'm in this camp. If we still only had Sullivan choosing the next guy I'd be much more reserved given his track record, but since with Ze Germans we seemingly now have a 'football competent' in the leadership positions at the club, I'm more comfortable risking a period of relative stability in the name of something better."

He will be offered one. I think he'd jump at the chance of a 'big' club again though. Personally I find the style of play pretty dour and would like to be entertained with a bit more attacking play but he has proved safe hands for the board and really they would be quite happy to keep the money rolling in and being in and around some form of European football. Is it wrong to want more from a super talented team that looks like it always plays reserved football against every opponent?

"Honestly believe we currently have the players in the squad to be doing better than we are whilst playing better football. Moyes has done well, but you seriously have to question someone who honestly believes there isn't a better striker out in the world who he could buy that is better than antonio. I loved winning Europe last season, but only someone extremely deluded would say we actually played anyone even half decent in it. Still, won't happen anyway so long as Sullivan is alive."

"Yes, right now I would. Question not clear if it's now or end of season. End of season, would obviously want to see how the season goes. I'm hopeful for a good season, maybe some more silverware, which would probably make it sure Moyes gets another contract. I see most are not answering the question, on the fence. Rest are no. Good to see Vexed thinks highly of me. Cool."

Willtell -FMOB Everyone please there are risks to changing a manager... Yes I know I was oblivious to this too.. But shockingly it's true.. Be careful what you wish for.. I now know of these risks and I won't be wanting a new manager.. I will make an effigy of the Moyesiah and worship it every night.

"They're OPTA STATS so I don't think take into account spending. They'd be looking at how the games have gone (xG, possession, etc). So, according to that, Spurs are lucky to be top, and we should be 14th."

Look this is a forum for opinions. It's very easy to say sack the manager. Many fans do that at many clubs without ever considering the very real risks involved in such a change. Last year I was one of those too. Moyes awful spending and the PL form was disastrous. So far Moyes has shown an ability to improve and the board have rightly brought in an expert to take control of player buying. Let's see how he does but Moyes can mess it up or make it ridiculous for the board to want to change. I remember Sir Alex Ferguson being on a knife edge of the sack in his 3rd season at Manchester United before he started winning trophies galore. In fact a winning goal from Mark Robins kept his job after 9 consecutive defeats. The fans wanted Sir Alex fired but he then went on to win the FA Cup and the rest is history....
