Sorry the post is late up.

After what feels like an age since we limped past Burnley, we're off to the seaside to take on many peoples favourite second team, Bournemouth.

All hussle, bustle and high intensity, Iraola's mob are the modern watch word for modern style, and there is plenty to be concerned about with talented forwards and great energy in the side.  But they've lost the last two, comprehensively against Villa, and if there is a good time to play them....maybe it's now.

After the last international break, Nuno went full Looney Tunes....let's hope for a modcum of sense this time around.

Predicted Lineup:

Hard to see beyond a team similar to the last few games, but with Paquéta suspended, all eyes will be on who replaces him from a squad devoid of any real creative influence.

No doubt the temptation will be to shoehorn Soucek into the side, but against the high energy Cherries, it surely has to be Magassa, with Fernandes pushing forwards.
Areola

Wan Bisaka  Todibo  Kilman  Diouf

Magassa Potts

Bowen         Fernandes            Summerville

Wilson
Subs: Hermansen, Mavropanos, Igor, KWP, Soucek, Irving, Kante, Guilherme, Earthy

Predicted Score:  A desmond.....2-2  (Willson, Soucek)

Great point and we'd all of taken that b4 kickoff but 2-0 up we need to win from there, replacing Wilson with Soucek was an awful move, at the very least put Bowen up top and Soucek in midfield. Nuno it had worked before, has it hell as like. I think today also showed how poor our squad is. With Paqueta and Summerville out the options on the bench were very poor. The shear lack of effort from the German was amazing. Guilherme just is not cut out for the Premier, shocking signing

Exactly or just give Guilherme another 15 mins and see if he can up his game. We were hardly in trouble in first half no need for kwp.
Guilherme was bloody hopeless so totally understand Nuno hooking him  the rest of the subs not so much
I’d still rather have a quick attacking player who is struggling on the wing than a fullback who doesn’t know how to play there and offers us fuck all going forward.

We have a shit load of games between now and Jan. We will need guilerhme and earthy to contribute in some games. We can’t have kwp as our attacking sub.

Would have taken a draw before the game.  Many teams will go there and lose this season.

I'm not going to be two harsh on Nuno.  For a start, he was the manager when we went in at half time 2 up.  And to get 7 points from 9, when was the last time we did that?

He did fuck up with the early subbing of Wilson, who had as least another 15 minutes in him, and then it all went awry.

On another note, I'd like to see Diouf whip in the corners, as Pott's floating the ball in doesn't really work.

I know its absolute bollocks to lose a lead like that, but tbh i wasnt expecting anything at all from this game. Its a massive shame that wilson isnt 8 years younger, and that we've thrown £75m down the shitter on the worst defenders ever, but here we are. Unbeaten in 3, it seemed impossible a month ago. In the words of Mr D Rice "we go again", who's next cant wait.

Out of the two I felt he should have brought on attacking Forward Earthy for the ineffective Guilherme, not a sodding defensive Fullback in another random position. He managed to neuter our own Team for Bournemouths benefit without even trying. 🤦‍♂️

Absolutely no need for those changes. Nuno is gutless. Fine to do that with 5 mins left, not with 40.
At 2-0 up you need to keep a chance on the counter. We would have had chances with attacking players on. I would honestly rather see is go down than play halfs of football like that regularly. Horrible viewing.
I hope he’s now learnt that soucek cannot play centre forward and kwp is not a fucking winger. A bit like he’s now learnt to play fullbacks the correct way around. Who fucking knew!!!!

The Wilson sub was 9 mins earlier than usual. Was Nuno thinking that bring 2 up we needed to protect the “glass like” Wilson edoecially as he seems to be scoring a few?  Over cautious ? Weve seen a lot of that from our managers down the years.  Im guessing that was his rationale ( it backfired ) but with Fernandes Im still dcratching my head as to why

Nuno’s only obvious error imo was removing Fernandes and not using Magassa to help stiffen up the midfield.

🤔

Taking our 2 goal scoring clinical Striker off early 2nd half supercedes that decision and both were bad. He's got to stop being clever for the sake of it creating problems that don't exist or he'll seriously begin to alienate the players.
Yep, come on Alfs, if that weren’t Jekyll and Hyde from Nuno I don’t know what would be. Beyond fucking atrocious decisions.

The criticism is explicitly of  the second half alone. The rest of your post is grasping for excuses to defect from the fact the tactics/substitutions were horrendous and they saw us capitulate.

If any of our rivals played like that for 45 minutes we would all rightly be taking the absolute piss.

Yeah, I'm calling bollocks on that if that was Nuno's thinking. There was fuck all wrong with Wilson especially after just banging 2 goals in without an issue and his disappointment said it all, not for the 1st time either. In fact he scored and lasted over 70 minutes in the previous game win as well. That decision wasn't fitness related, he genuinely wanted to sit back and defend inviting pressure which was a moronic thing to do so soon after the restart.

I can tell you what I would expect.
Not trying to park the bus and protect a lead from 45mins
Not taking off Wilson as long there was juice in his legs.
Not adding Soucek as he add fuck all to the midfield.
But try to play , try to keep the ball, try to press, try to attack, try to be brave.
Setting us up like Nuno did at second half was catastrophic and unnecessary

We've had quite a few games against Bournemouth, usually at theirs,  which have been a bit like that over the years.

That was the fifth successive score draw against them in the league, we are now unbeaten in ten against them in all competitions.

Going back to the days of Pellegrini for our last defeat to them.

We did compete and were two up..Wilson can't last more than hour and Fulkrug is injured and not that good. No Paqueta or Summerville today either and with the wind against us not sure what people expect.

Trying to make out Bournemouth are a top 5 team is as laughable as making out people expected free flowing Brazilian football.

It’s not beyond the pale as fans to expect us to at least try to compete. We took off attackers and sat back barely passing the ball for 45 minutes. That was a deliberate tactical move against a team that has finished above us once since being promoted again.

Think we have to remember we're not a good side, have a terrible strikeforce, were shorn of our quickest player and the one that has any stardust today, and the bench had a bunch of snails and cloggers on it.

That second half was always coming.....they're the best pressing team in the league with a force nine behind them.

It wasn't a good effort from us, but there is some context to it too.

But... we're at least looking up from the drivel under Potter at the start of the season. Nuno is working with what he have right now, and is picking up points and sad as it is, 17th on goal difference this season would be a win.

So today is dispiriting from 2 up, but not unpredictable or surprising...to have been 2 up was surprising frankly.

But...it's another point on the route to 17th and survival. Just need for us all to Hold the Line this season, get the cunts in charge out, and see where it takes us.

Now is not the moment to bemoan the manager making some iffy decisions with a bad squad against a high quality opponent in difficult second half conditions IMO.
