General Election - July 2024

This appears to be the rumour on Sky. An easy win for Starmer and some big names losing their seats. The Country needs a change but is it going to get one? The thought of seeing that annoying Beth Rigby for 6 weeks though is a horrifying thought.

"Stewie: ""Like when Blair and brown openly admitted that their open border policies were because immigrants will vote Labour."" Except that neither ever said that."

"threesixty 11:48 Sun May 26 Re: General Election - July 2024 Should 16&17 yr olds be given the vote If you're the leader of the Labour Party, of course it makes sense. Buys you another couple of million votes. Like when Blair and brown openly admitted that their open border policies were because immigrants will vote Labour. The Tories redraw boundaries, Labour introduce demographics that guarantee them votes. It's as transparently obvious as Sunak's pathetic, belated realisation that he probably would have won if he was an actual Conservative"

"I think it’s a brilliant idea btw. There’s no community spirit in this country. Get the kids to buy into where they live, feel part of something that they’ve helped to build."

"Reading more about the National Service policy it seems like rather than just a miserable boot camp type experience it would be attempting to build interests in things like cyber, logistics and helping the fire, police and NHS. I am reasonably certain that even if it is not brought in soon, at some point in the future it will be."

"Should 16&17 yr olds be given the vote? I don’t see how it makes sense. The age of majority is 18. How can you make a decision on how the country is run if you’re not seen as an adult fully responsible for your decisions? I don’t even think you can legally leave higher education anymore at 16, but you can vote? Recently I’ve seen that kids at that age are more “babied” than we ever were. I knew kids that moved out at 16 and were working; living their own lives back in the 80s and 90s. I think that unheard of now. At 16 you have a hypothetical view on life. You’re just not ready in my opinion."

Sunak wants to bring back compulsory national service if he wins. He’s trying to lose on purpose isn’t he….

"Hammer and Pickle 12:08 Sun May 26 Labour, Tory, right left, far right, far right, extreme left/right etc. All meaningless twaddle. Its globalists versus national populists. National populists are on the left and right of various subjects, but they are the majority and will eventually win. IN the end, idiots like yourself will end up saving the west simply by everyone with a functioning brain automatically being opposed to anything you stand for. Have a nice evening!"

Anyone else getting the impression many of the most outright reactionary cranks on here are just Labour Party activists on a cunning mission to discredit the Right?

"Debs Side IIRC Blair won another election after the Gulf War but before the dodgy dossier scandal. Knowing that because of this, Labour would lose next time out, he handed over to Brown (several years after the agreed date), who made certain that Blair was right by calling some old trout from Darlington an ignorant bitch (or similar)."

"On the ballot paper there should be an extra box enti” none of these “, then if that’s the winner in ant constituency then there must be a re run with completely different candidates, trouble with this is that I can see a never ending round of ballots as we all basically know 99% of politicians are shit/ useless/ corrupt etc"
