Daily Quiz anyone?

"If you are stuck at home and bored like me. How about exercising the old grey cells? I have for a number of years run quiz nights and couple of times a year. I was due to do one tomorrow which is now cancelled So I have a bank of questions sitting in my computer's hard drive. They are quite eclectic in their nature. I am thinking I could put up a set of questions for which you write down your answers. After 30mins or so I will put up the answers. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS. before I post the right answers. You mark your own answers and post your score. I will then record the scores and at the end of the ""lockdown"" we will see who is WHO's brainbox supreme. Obiviously no looking up the answers (you only cheat yourselves) Word of warning these won't be easy questions as they have been devised for teams of six. Forming teams on here might be too problematic. So I'll try to pick out the easier questions. Any interest?"

"must be loads of different reasons and three different answers to 7. two answers at least to 8. Reckon I've 7 answers right (including 8, but that involves guessing which reason you're going for)"

", Sorry but the first rule of this quiz is to have fun The second rule is to realise that it isn't that important If you can live with that by all means join in and demonstrate your cerebral powers which may astound, Todays questions will be easy but my answers may be controversial but will be ""right"". Also if there are typos I apologise these all from banks of questions which were read to an assembled audience anyway join in and have fun"

The first rule of setting a quiz is to write the questions down correctly.

Well done easthammer for doing this. Appreciate it. I’ve set many quizzes myself and agree it’s a minefield re the answers. You gotta so sure it’s 100% correct. At least this is just a bit of fun & there’s no money/trophy at stake. Keep up the good work

"SOS 5 it is. When I run a live quiz night I don't have the luxury of debate. So my answers are the law. But here I can tolerate the debate. As I used to tell my students back in the day, there are very few absolutely correct answers, only good and bad ones! Having said this, No doubt I am now in danger of being challenged on this as some people cannot abide the subjectve nature of ""truth""."

"Yes, SoS. It's a vague question, I think. Port used to have to be SHIPPED from Porto to be given that name iirc. Now, as long as it's from Duoro region it can likely be ""shipped"" via lorry. If not right now."

I have checked the answer to q.5 The word xocoatl has entomology back to the Incas although some would argue Mayans. But it appears that the Spanish actually took the drink from the Aztecs So if you have Inca Mayan or Aztec Claim a point today as there seems to be some lack of certainty as to which of these acient people first started drinking the stuff.
