"OS West Ham United complete Nayef Aguerd transfer West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of Morocco international defender Nayef Aguerd. The 26-year-old joins the Hammers from French Ligue 1 club Rennes on a five-year contract and adds further quality and depth to David Moyes‚Äô squad. He will wear the No27 shirt. Aguerd has enjoyed two impressive seasons with Rennes, enhancing the reputation he established at FUS Rabat, Dijon and with the Moroccan national team. Now, the left-sided player will continue his career in the English Premier League, where his combination of talents will see him provide strong competition for Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma. ‚ÄúI was really excited when I heard about West Ham United's interest,‚Äù said Aguerd, an impressive individual who speaks fluent French, English, Arabic and Spanish. ‚ÄúWhen I heard about it, I knew I needed to go to the Premier League, because it‚Äôs a dream for every player. ‚ÄúWest Ham is a historic Club. I saw a few of their games this year, and I saw the fans and the atmosphere were fantastic, with the bubbles! ‚ÄúI talked with the manager and he showed me that he was very interested, so it was easy to choose to come to West Ham.‚Äù Aguerd was born in the city of K?©nitra in the north of Morocco into a footballing family. His father played in the Moroccan top-flight, while his uncle Abdelmajid Bouyboud was capped 34 times and appeared at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals ‚Äì an achievement his nephew could emulate in Qatar later this year. As a boy, Aguerd represented local club KAC of K?©nitra before being scouted and recruited to the national Mohammed VI Football Academy in the capital city of Rabat, where he spent four years playing alongside the likes of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri. In 2014, aged 18, he joined leading club Rabat FUS, making 12 appearances in his debut season and attracting the attention of a host of leading Spanish clubs. After bulking up and working hard on his game, Aguerd then inspired FUS to their first-ever Moroccan Championship in May 2016, scoring a vital goal against Ittihad Tanger that all but clinched the title. After scoring in the 2017 CAF Champions League and impressing regularly for FUS over the next two seasons, Aguerd joined French Ligue 1 club Dijon in 2018. Two encouraging seasons for Les Rouges led to a transfer to Rennes, where he started the club‚Äôs first-ever UEFA Champions League match at home to Russian side Krasnodar and featured in four of six group-stage fixtures in the autumn of 2020. Aguerd has thrived at Roazhon Park, making 66 Ligue 1 appearances and helping Rennes qualify for Europe in each of the last two seasons. He scored twice in seven UEFA Europa Conference League appearances and started 31 Ligue 1 games as Rennes finished fourth last term. At international level, the defender was capped at U20 and U23 level before making his senior debut against Albania in August 2016. Two years later, he helped Morocco win the African Nations Championship on home turf. He is now a regular in the Atlas Lions‚Äô starting XI with 25 senior caps and was an ever-present in Morocco‚Äôs successful 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and run to the 2021 CAF Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals. Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Nayef to London Stadium and wish him all the best for his career in Claret and Blue."

"Eerie Descent 11:41 Mon Sep 25 I don't feel its making excuses. Juts providing an explanation to what is going on. You are, in one respect, absolutely right, Zouma doesn't make the same mistakes. But, then again, you exaggarate to make a point by saying Aguerd makes three glaring errors per game. he doesn't. Either way, there's some semblance of agreement in the middle. The point is, Aguerd is not a bad player. In fact, he's a very good player. But, if he is not good enough to play under Moyes system then he needs to go. But, in my opinion, if that did happen it wouldn't all be Aguerd's fault. The defend, defend, defend and then break policy is risky. And the better teams will lap it up. That's why, under Moyes, we rarely beat a team that we shouldn't expect to beat."

"Forgot to mention Aguerd as its his thread - yes he's error prone. I dont think entirely to blame for the pen but def too easily beaten for the second goal. He could have cost us against Luton, the clumsy sending off against Chelsea, he's racked a few up hasn't he...better not screw up against the blades. Perhaps he needs to be dropped in favor of the greek."

"My worry is that players like Paqueta will be off next season - he's wasted here. Had some lovely touches yesterday but mostly in our own half. If Kudus dosen't get some game time then him too. Moyes clearly has his favourites and they aren't getting dropped unless they are badly injured. He doesent believe in strikers and we are overly reliant on Antonio and Bowen as goal scoring outlets and we don't really have a plan B in that department. The thing is, his system has reaped some degree of success as hard as the football has been to watch at times and we're in 7th and i think in no danger of the drop this season so Sullivan wont even be thinking about sacking him. The interesting thing is what happens at the end of his season, because his contract is up isn't it?"

"There is far too much excuse making going 9n here. The style of play may have some effect, but a 27 year old £35mil international defender shouldn't be making sometimes 3 glaring errors a game. We had most of the ball against Luton, he made one trademark keystone cop mistake that thankfully we got away with. I don't like the manager or the style, but we can't make excuses for blatant incompetence. Zouma isn't making numerous mistakes every game. It's not good enough."

"What Pentonville, Russ and Miike have said - odd that some who pose as critics of Moyes also fail to notice the effect of his dead hand on individual players' performances. They're clearly too busy indulging themselves by dwelling on the negatives for some odd reason or another..."

"Doesn't matter how good you are at football, once you play under Moyes, u are playing a totally different game. He was managing before these players signed their first Pro contract. They were taught a progressive way of football where goalies play from the back, where center backs play from the back and then u join Moyes and are taken back to a time when dinosaurs roamed. No wonder Liverpool target Aguerd makes mistakes. He hasn't a fucking clue what sport we are playing under Moyes. That bloke destroys careers."

Takashi Miike 10:52 Mon Sep 25 Bang on. We could have prime Bobby Moore and Franco Baresi playing at the back and they'd make mistakes. You can't sit and defend for a whole game. It's too much pressure.

"are you joking? we created three headed chances yesterday, I can't remember one shot on target. we've got out most creative player now in the vlasic/fornals role babysitting emerson, because he refuses to drop soucek. he also doesn't know what to do with yet another £35-40m player in kudus, who again will not start in the PL because of his devotion to a carthorse. you carry on defending the tactics, continue believing it's a masterplan that works but don't expect others to enjoy it. it's unsustainable to expect the back four to be error free when they're under constant pressure, and it's even more unsustainable to expect your goalkeeper to deliver 9/10 performances each week because they have so much to do"

"Brilliant. So you’d drop our best defender and captain in favour of someone who continually drops clangers. Genius. The tactics are nothing to do with him missing headers, getting caught wrong side and being out muscled. Every game."

"Don’t get me wrong, daveyg - I see the errors as much as anyone. It’s just I’m more willing to forgive them as he is a fast, attack-minded player who, as a defender tends to get out by Moyes’s negativity. Not really all that much in it really - hope to see him alongside Bobby Marvellous and a proper midfield ahead of him capable of doing something with the ball once it’s got it."

"Nothing funnier than watching Pickle attempting to talk about football. 27 year old centre back and you’re waffling about improving his positioning? If you haven’t worked out where you need to be at his age you never will. Not that positioning is the issue for basic errors in his game. “Oh yeh he’s great in the air and on the ball, hands the opposition a goal on a plate every week but he’s working on his positioning”. Fuck sake man, please stay off football threads."

"as bad as he's been, I think it's impossible to be perfect playing in this shit system. defending for 90% of the game wears you down, it's fucking soul destroying yet many lap it up and idolize the miserable jock cսnt"

"Pickle. I don't think he had a good game, it was poor positioning and reaction.to say otherwise is crazy. He didn't have a mare but wasn't good Neither center backs did."

"I'm glad you thought he had quite a good game. I've read similar since the day he signed, 'I thought he played well today, apart from the mistake' However, everyone apart from you has now realised that it can't go on. Making mistakes every single game as a centre half negates any positives about his passing, or his heading. I've even gone past the point of cutting him slack because of the way we play. Yes he'd suit a front foot team better, but you still need the basics of defending. His positioning is awful, his anticipation is awful, and his defensive nous is awful."

"Whatever Edward - one detail seems to have escaped you; Aguerd doesn't play over the Hackney Marshes. Today he was one of our centre backs at Anfield and I thought he had quite a good game. Also, it's perfectly clear you are a total arsehole."

"Fritzl, seeing as you know the square root of fuck all about football, I'll educate you. STATS for a central defender are irrelevant, if you're committing glaring errors every fucking game that you wouldn't have seen over the Hackney Marshes. Lesson over. I won't charge you, as I've got morals."
