Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

"UEFA's team of the tournament has only got 1 English player in it, despite us reaching the final. And it's Kyle Walker."

"i don't usually pay too much attention to stats, but the one shot and one touch in the penalty area, over 2 finals is unreal, given Southgate's insistence to persevere with it, until effectively too late. ditto (if true), the one from the radio which mentioned more long punts from Pickford to Kane, in a succession of games, than any England team since the 1940s. Lampard being even mentioned seriously by a pundit though, tops even the above."

Different time. Different job requirements. Manny. While the top dogs at the FA do their best to cover their own arseholes and more importantly their jobs. Fuck All will change. And the classic exercise in kicking the can down the road continues.

A young man like Howe should be looking at another 15 years in club management though I'd like to see him take it and Southgate get Newcastle International management is a part time job for a manager who has had his club career and is a bit older ... like the 63yo Spain manager Also think the manager should have the same country qualification as a player Maybe an exception for developing nations like Scotland

"True. I was listening to something from Sky this morning j g saying he was privately tired of being the FAs defacto spokesperson for all sorts of issues, even several non football ones. I imagine that’s very grating. ‘Can you say something to the bbc about trans rights please?’ ‘Do I have to? I’m trying to put together a fucking training schedule.’"

"Shorty - Bobby Robson at Barca, but not many do it. To better Southgate the new coach obviously has to win a Euro's or WC. Can't say I'm that confident. Another problem with the England job now is that you have to toe the woke line, be a statesman, and you get asked your views on a lot of non football stuff, that could make some shy away."

PR who would Newcastle go for.? Those who would go there have already moved on. And the managers who are left ain't what Newcastle are looking for. As for Howe. Why leave club football in a top League. I can't think of anyone who has gone and managed a top name international side. Then gone back and successfully managed a club side in one of the top leagues.?

Germany also has some really good tactically astute coaches. We don't. We are miles behind the other European heavy hitters in that respect. Absolutely miles.

"""The England manager should always be English"" I agree. It's not like we need the English version of Klopp either. If Southgate has managed to reach finals and semi finals, then you'd hope a competent manager would do better."

"Does anyone think Germany would ever appoint an Englishman to be their national team manager? Of course they wouldn't, they have some fucking pride. The England manager should always be English, regardless of results. It's frustrating as fuck to lose, but that is what it is. The credentials needed to be a country's manager should be the same as it is for players, or else what really is the fucking point."

"Liverpool fans hate England, so that could be funny. If the FA are saying the new bloke doesn't have to be English then you'd assume it's Klopp's if he wants it as I'm sure he will be approached."

RBshorty 2:57 Lineker said he thought Lampard should do it. WHAT THE FUCK? Bloke has been a total disaster everywhere he's managed so far.

Good decision all round for Gareth to step aside. I knew he'd do the decent thing. Looked a stressed out and beaten man all through this tournament. FA have said it's the best man rather than the best Englishman which is great. If it's an Englishman i want Howe. Very unsure about Potter and all the other English candidates- no fucking thanks. For me they should do whatever it takes to get Klopp to agree to the job. Give the cսnt a solid gold England baseball cap. He is as close as we can get to buying an international trophy. I wouldn't hate Poch but I think we could do better. I have a feeling it'll be either him or Potter..I'll be a bit disappointed if it's Potter but open to being proved wrong.
