And of course I was not wrong, and now, tragically, we have this war. To a great extent, many in Germany, UK and US believed Putin could be accommodated and eventually civilised and the path of resolute confrontation with the imperialistically bent dictator was never a popular one. So here we are today, but hopefully lessons have been learnt and minds in the Senate will be more focused."
