Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"PB, fuck, I have already downloaded it and was quite looking forward to it. Cheers for saving two and a bit hours of my rapidly downhill life! Manuel has suggested a few Craig Fairbrass films that I am going to get and watch straight after I have finished Dope Sick, the drama about the stuff I am currently addicted to because of my recent pushbike accident, Oxycontin. It's a great series (I know that this is the wrong thread) but fuck me, how great is Michael Keaton an actor?"
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"Many Saints of Newark. If you're a Sopranos fan like myself, avoid like the plague. The film is sold on false pretences of seeing how Tony begins his journey, but his inclusion is a peripheral story that's fleeting at best. In contrast, the story focuses heavily on Dickie Maltasanti. The only plus is that the fleeting appearance of Michael Gandolfini playing his dad's most famous character is decent, and he captures the mannerisms of Tony in the show perfectly. I'd been looking forward to this film since it was announced. It's such a shame it's a lump of uninteresting shit."

I'm with you Joe... absolutely love Sicario... seen it double figures at least... the bit at the border control is one of my fav scenes ever... liked the original Dune with Sting and co so will check out the new one... lead actor Tim Chalamet is a superb actor... was brilliant in the King
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Dune. Solid 7 from me.If they make enough wedge to finish it. Then it might improve. It looks great and the cast is spot on. But it ain’t the classic the vast majority are banging on about.

Hardly brilliant.
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
"Dune has been pretty much universally praised (despite Swiss saying “after all the negative reviews” - you only have to Google ‘Dune review’ to see that he’s wrong), but I was disappointed. I’m a big fan of Scicario and of Arrival, but Blade Runner 2049 left me cold - found it too much a case of style over substance, and was quite bored by the end. Same with Dune unfortunately. Very impressive to look at, but Denis Villeneuve has dumbed the source material down so much to cater for people that have never read the book that character development and exposition really suffer. The other issues is Hans Zimmers score - as with BR 2049, it’s just too loud. When nothing much is happening on screen, you don’t need to deafen people. Nolan did the same, particularly with Interstellar. That’s not to say it’s a bad film, I hope the second part gets made (as it’s quite an abrupt ending covering only the first half of the book), but it’s not the ultimate work some reviews are making it out to be (for me) 7/10"

"Swiss glad to hear you liked Dune as I'm hopefully off to see it this week I went to the IMEX a couple of weeks ago to see Craig in his farewell role as Bond, all I want to add is that those fucking woke Yanks have destroyed a once great movie franchise"

You didn't like Signs?!? That's the only film I've ever felt tense watching in the cinema. Love it.

"does he? you must be a fan, I wouldn't have known that. I just looked up how much, possibly the worst film ever, 'the happening' took at the box office. $163m. that right there is an indicator of why the world is so fucked"
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Takashi Miike 11:23 Sat Oct 23 He produces all his films as well so doesn't need that many friends as it is a sort of cottage industry. It means he is free to make what he likes which is a bit of a double edged sword.

"the closest I got to liking a film was The Village, and the bit where she climbs over the wall and it's revealed they weren't in fact living in the past completely shit on the previous hour+ viewing. it's almost as if he's trolling/taking the piss out of the audience. he must be a some powerful friends in the industry, to be allowed to keep delivering such crap"

Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Kermode is a seriously odd cսnt. He has a ridiculous knowledge of films but he still has a warped sense f what is good. I agree with him sometimes but find he is more and more a fucking twat as he gets older. Ideal for the BBC
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
I am with you on M Knight Shyamalan although I enjoyed Glass as well as Split and Unbeakable. Seeing Dune tomorrow abd really looking forward to it. I also have a blind spot for Denis Villeneuve - Sicario and Arrival are both superb and I love Blade Runner 2049 (although I am in a minority on that one with my son who also loved it).
Re: 2020 Movies (now including 2021 and 2022)
Bang on about Kermode. Swiss. The guy has a massive blindside. Namely Danny Boyle. And William Friedkin. Turns into a massive teenage girl when anyone disagrees with his opinion. So he is perfect for the Beeb.
