Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.
Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

I think we might stretch to £40m for Fernandes as a midpoint between 30 & 50 & that may be enough. Maybe , maybe not
I’d like to see him and the Lille player but it’s Sullivan (short arms, deep pockets , complete cսnt) that is running the show
Bung in Ward-Prowse into the deal and maybe that swings it!

I see we are linked with Elnesyri.....Again! Whats that 3 pre-seasons running now? Give it another 3 and he will be ripe enough to Join Potters West Ham Dad's Army!

I doubt anybody (except equally-stupid Newcastle) would pay £50m for a 21-year-old from the Championship. And Southampton must know it. My guess is they see him as central to getting them back up. But money talks when deadlines loom.
Fuck me. You do realise that just two years ago someone (Chelsea) paid £50m+ for a 19 year old from the Championship? And Southampton must know it, seeing as they were the club who were paid it (for Romeo Lavia).

If we’re determined on Fernandes, just let Southampton sweat.

Ramsey to Newcastle. 43m.

The point about Fernandes at £50m is not that he’s a bad player - perhaps not. But at that price, even aged 21, there’s a strong chance you’d never get the money back if he didn’t work out.
Like Kilman right now (very different player, obvs). Nobody would pay anywhere near that amount for him now.
And we’ve got to stop losing big cash/value on people like Kilman, Alvarez, JWP etc.

Didn't the opposite happen last season, the manager didn't want Fernandes so we didn't buy him and ended up stuck with Guido and we're moaning because we shouldn't have listened to the manager as being stuck with him is stopping our business now. I don't think we should pay anything close to what they want for him, I do think we should have found this out earlier though.
Yup, I believe the scarf who shall not be mentioned wanted Fernandes. He went for 15 mill to Southampton and we got Guido courtesy of Lop or Sullivan. Fucking superb bit of business
The ultimate clash of philosophies. Unsurprisingly the cheap short sighted one won out.
So we shouldn't always let the manager have his way

it's a flawed system isn't it, Potter obviously doesn't like wingers and he could sell them all... Then he bombs out gets sacked and we employ someone who plays 4-3-3 and back on the merry go round we get.
Yeah you can look back and pick and choose a little what worked and what didn't with the benefit of hindsight but we have a definite tendency to identify young players that go on to be good players with a big price tag, and not buying them for one reason or another at the time when they'd be really good value.
Our tendency to avoid investing in young up and coming players and instead invest in expensive players on their way down with big wages and no resale value is definitely detrimental to the club though.
I know this isn't a view shared by many but I'd stick with Potter and let him build a young team over the course of a couple of seasons. I know we won't because Sullivan won't be able to let him get on with it without meddling and undermining all the plans. At least if it doesn't pan out brilliantly a new manager will actually be able to fund yet anther overhaul by getting good money from selling players in their mid 20s rather than having to be lumbered with a group of immovable players in their late 20s and early 30s.

Fernandes does seem considerably over-valued at £50m, especially as it’s legs we need in midfield (assuming Paqueta stays and remains the more creative force).
I get that Soton fans rate him. But we shouldn’t pay that for him. He just hasn’t shown that value yet.
As a marker (and it’s only that), you could lure Konrad Laimer out of Bayern’s stiffs, plus Hayden Hackney, for around £40m - £45m combined. Then you have legs. I’m sure there are many other options, too.

Yup. Sullivan loses yet another game of ‘4d chess’. The old ‘one lowball bid for one player then scrabble around for anyone regardless of what the manager wants’ approach paying off handsomely again.

But yes we shouldn't be held to ransom over Fernandes now and just pay whatever they want. Although one 'opening bid' of 30m then just apparently walking away without any haggling suggests we really aren't serious about the player.

West Ham now keen to sign former Manchester City midfielder Pep Guardiola called ‘outstanding’
Lucas Arnold
TBR Football can exclusively reveal that West Ham United are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Aleix Garcia.
West Ham have recently been frustrated in their pursuit of Southampton playmaker Mateus Fernandes.
The Hammers made an approach to sign Fernandes, only to learn that Southampton want over £50m for the 21-year-old – they were almost insulted by the initial offer that arrived from east London.
That being said, West Ham are still working hard to find a new midfield talent to dovetail with Lucas Paqueta at the London Stadium – a player they will not be selling on the cheap.
And although funds are limited at the club, West Ham are showing interest in former Manchester City man Garcia, who’s currently playing his football in the Bundesliga.
Exclusive: West Ham interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Aleix Garcia
That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now provided the latest on West Ham’s transfer situation before the end of August.
Initially asked if there was a chance that Paqueta could leave West Ham this summer, Bailey went on to mention the Hammers’ interest in Garcia.
Replying to the idea of Paqueta leaving, Bailey said: “They stood by him, so I don’t think there’s a massive push for him to leave – the talk of West Ham accepting £30m has been totally ruled out.
“He’s been playing the last two years— he’s not been like Pogba, he hasn’t been banned, he hasn’t spent two years on the sidelines.
“So why would they suddenly drop from £70m down to £30m? That’s nonsense – they have other options.”
And now Spanish midfielder Garcia, who left Man City to initially head to Romania in 2020, is a potential target.
Pep Guardiola hailed Garcia as an ‘outstanding’ young player many moons ago, and he rekindled his career at Girona before heading to Germany.
Bailey continued: “One option is Leverkusen’s Aleix Garcia, a player they quite like, he’s not really on anyone’s radar at the moment.
“There are other players, but West Ham need to move some out first to free up funds. They liked Jacob Ramsey, but that was never an option.
“Harvey Elliott was another target, but after Mohammed Kudus left, they only had £40m, and they spent £15/20m of that on Hermansen. Funds are very limited.
“Someone like Garcia might be available for that sort of money. James Ward-Prowse has come back into consideration, but there are players they want to move on.”

Seems to me the reason we are not selling any players is because they will be better than what we can afford to replace them with.
This window is a royal piss take, while all we want is a better team than last season, Sullivan and the board are playing games. They have no intention of improving us.
I fully regret renewing my season ticket, I honestly thought they wouldn't be this stupid, I know Sullivan is, but not the rest of the board, so what's going on.
if I knew we were this skint, no way would I have renewed.
We should get to see Potters “legendary” coaching skills this season then. If he can’t get what he wants in he has to train what he has.
we have some excellent and experienced players in the squad.
not sure why someone like Emerson can’t play CM or Kilman play CDM etc. We’ve seen how effective it can be repurposing players (arnie and Antonio from winger to striker, Newcastle took joelinton from striker to CM etc).
If anything Potters football should be a “total football” model where we rely less on dedicated positions and more players having technical ability and fluidity in their roles. (I’m probably dreaming tbh..)

We absolutely *must* be able to get rid of Irvine, Rodriguez (who was free) and Alvarez (current international captain) if we really want to.
Emerson's exit has to be just a matter of time.
Cornet? Who knows?
I do accept that wages will be an issue for all but Irvine
The fact that JWP has been made vice captain means that he's going nowhere unfortunately
I don't agree with Trundle... I've been hoping we'd upgrade left back/left wing back for over 2 years and it was even more obvious when we could see what an improvement AWB made on the right.... and Areola has been a "sometimes good at shot-stopping, never come for crosses, no command of his area, no communication liability" for a while

It's because they are shit and no one wants them for anything like the price we'd ask for. We just can't sell any of them. Chickens coming home to roost from his awful transfer policy of buying average players for their maximum value before they go on the slide and aren't worth what we paid for in fee or wages, and their performance levels decline quickly and we're just stuck with them because no-one wants them and their wages are so big that they don't want to leave as they'll get nothing like it elsewhere. Look at JWP. Forest sent him back because he couldn't get into their team and we are stuck with him. Kilman we are absolutely stuck with until his contract ends in SIX years because no-one will be mental enough to take him for the money he will want. We will end up paying players to leave.
It's definitely not a case of there isn't better out there. There's plenty better out there but Sullivan refuses to or can't pay for it.

My guess is if Potter hasn't integrated them into the first squad this preseason, like he's done with Potts, then there's very little chance we'll be seeing any of them this upcoming season.
We've not seen anything more of Fearon after he showed up the rest of the midfield in that game in the States.

I really do not understand this transfer window at all as it seems we have no money whereas in the land of scouse they seem to have all the money in the world. Forget the red side of the cunts, explain how the fuck can Everton who have had points deduction for PSR have suddenly been able to spend almost £90m so far on players, including Dewsbury-Hall, plus the loan signing of Jack Grealish AND are in for Dibling for £50m. I know they sold their Doris side to themselves but surely that can't be it. Also why the fuck havent we exploited this loophole and sold our Doris side to free up funds. Got the right hump over this coming season, in case you couldn't read between the lines
We don't need to do anything like that for PSR. No danger of breaching it this summer. We're just skint and have no money to spend. That's why we've spent so little comparatively to even teams in PSR trouble. They have cash, we do not.

It's been an unmitigated disaster, so far, in my eyes.
Nothing's changed. We're still having Sullivan pick players. We still rely on Salthouse too much. We still seem to heavily just focus on one player (not one type of player) and often ending up spending WAY too much for him. We still haven't improved the 2 biggest problems from season (CB and CM).
The only 2 positives is that hopefully we have a good deal with Hermansen, and hopefully he becomes our new number 1, and Diouf does look decent every now and then on the LWB position.
But there was no one calling out for those 2 positions to be upgraded as a priority, when apparently we're so skint.
And don't get me started about Wilson.
I hoping to be a bit more positive after the Sunderland game, if we beat them.

I couldn't give a fuck about Ramsey. We were never in for him and he never wanted to come to us. Good luck to him sitting on Newcastle's bench.
Fernandes would be a great buy. But, as I said yesterday, not a priority - Especially with Paqueta staying. yes, in an ideal world, we get Fernandes in and then look to sell Paq in the summer with Fernandes stepping up. But we are operating in a far from ideal world.
The two for me are Makua and Gueyue. We van literally get these two for just north of £30m. And they would transform our squad. A powerful dynamic box to box midfielder and a young striker.
I know what Sullivan is doing. He has dropped the bait and, according to news outlets from a few days ago, both players and clubs wanted the move. But he will leave it right to the last minute so Lille and Metz respectively won't have much negotiation time and he will say to them the money is there, take it or leave it. But, as we know, that approach leaves them no time to work with the coach / manager and then they need a few weeks to bed in. But, as we know, for Sullivan, his view of that is 'so fucking what? I got myself a bargain'.
FFS, just go and get them now.
His 'strategy' also only works on the assumption the seller is desperate to sell before the end of the window or the player is going to really agitate for the move. Probably he assumes everyone runs their shit in the same amateur slapdash short sighted last minute way he does.
If the club doesn't want to sell, they just tell us to do one and we get the old 'we tried' and Jonjo Shelvey and Josh Brownhill on 5 year contracts. And then he blames all his staff rather than looking at himself.
