Expect we'll collate a list of ideas and see what we can do, as some are easier to deliver than others.  At the moment the photo banner is what it is (we took some of the old photos, some new ones, and combined them to make a new static banner, but I like the idea of having it not be static).

The 'likes' thing is an interesting one...does extending it potentially reduce post volumes/interaction as its easier just to hit the 'hate' button that call someone a cսnt?  Maybe we'll stick a thread up of ideas for 'improvements' and we'll see which ones people 'like' the most. The new platform does at least give us scope to extend the features that are available though.

Hmmm I don't get any photos on the Banner just white space - Ah just checked on my phone and I can se the logo photos etc - must be my work laptop stopping it its using Edge...  still would be nice if it scrolled too 😉
Found the issue.  Should start to see it in the next few hours (might have to press 'ctrl-F5' to make your page refresh).
Sorted Ctrl F5 did the tick after whatever you did..... glad I could help in some very small way!

looks great without taking too much away from the old site. Thanks to all involved.

The clock is right now though, so will have to make mental adjustments when looking at the time posts were made :)

couple of questions :
  1. Will you be adding the old photo banner at the top that used to scroll through classic West Ham pictures to give it the old look and feel
  2. The likes you can add against comments - can that be extended to include Laugh, Love, Hate etc rather than have to actually reply?

Great job gents.  Only bits I'm struggling with is the old way of just replying to a post rather than hitting the reply button at top of the thread and also found it easier with posters names in bigger letters above the thread title in each post, but that's all probably down to my eyes!  On the plus side I love the "delete post" option which certainly will help the next time I post the quiz with the bloody answers attached!  😂  BTW On android I find that if you try and add an emoji the whole thing goes mad and flickers.
I get the same thing if the keyboard is up and pressing in the smiley buttons. You can always use the smileys from your phone instead of the editor to avoid that.

I tried 'fiddling' with the text sizes yesterday...making the reply titles smaller and the poster name a little bigger. Will see if I can go a bit bigger still.

Not sure what I can do re the Reply buttons....just the way this software works. Can always hit the quote button to reply, or to scroll to the top to hit reply there's a small 'move to top' button at the bottom right side of each post that will get you there quick.

We're still looking to see what small usability tweaks we can make to improve things but are somewhat limited in some areas.bybthe way the software itself works.
Thanks Stubbo, no hardship just set in the old ways!!  Great job to all, now all we need is a decent striker!  😁

mallard wrote: 30 Aug 2024, 18:56 Great site Gents, good work. I’m loving the Nostalgia section - everyone was so much funnier back then!

One slight niggle with this new format -  On my iPad it opens up in a separate ‘App’ and not Safari, so I don’t have a ‘back’ or ‘refresh’ button.
What app does it open in? I'm not an iOS expert, but I tried it on my mate's iPhone last night and was ok.

Anyone else that can suggest anything?

Ignore that - I had saved the URL to my Home Screen rather than just bookmark it on Safari!

All sorted 👍

We've just made some styling changes to make the site a bit more 'old skool' looking.

To see the changes (less colours, old WHO pin icons, bigger topic icons) clear your browsing data/cache from your browser.

I'm finding that the setting keeps defaulting to Ascending, even after I've set to Descending:

Yes just read back in this thread, you can make it permanent

Just landed. Looks decent. Change had become inevitable, at first glance this looks like it's retained WHOs lump-of-coal-like heart. Good stuff.

It is possible ..use the "attachment" option at the base of the posting window and then choose 'inline' (in post) or not. Image needs to be 500k or less.
I actually got it working by by inserting the text using<>

Nice job with the new site. I will miss the clunky “Web 1.0” style design but not the performance 😊

thanks for your efforts. As a retired IT man I can still remember ( just ) the data migration and other efforts involved.
