Cricket World Cup

"Starts on 5 October. Hopefully England can successfully defend the trophy, but it will be tough in Indian conditions. If England fall short, anyone but India or Australia please. I do fear India will 'find a way' to win their home World Cup though, given it's in their backyard and they effectively control the ICC these days."

The idea is that batting second the dew arrives and the ball doesnt deviate at all. That said this wicket looks so flat England could have batted first and knocked up 400+ like S Africa did

"Why do they persist with Woakes, he looks like a pub player Because they keep hoping (wrongly), that he reproduces his form in England (English player of the series, in this year's Ashes, for example), overseas."

"Excellent batting by the Afghans That said its a perfect batting wicket, miniscule boundaries and a rock hard lightning fast outfield."

More embarrassingly is that we won the fucking toss and put them in.

"India vs Pakistan today at 09:30. Venue is the 130,000 capacity stadium, modestly named after the Hon Prime Minister of India. Hardly any of those present will be cheering on Pakistan. Bit of a disadvantage, perhaps."

Only 13/2 to win a 6th World Cup now. Bit mean innit? Was hoping to be out to 25/1 at least I assume Richard Kettleborough .... the Darren England of cricket umpiring.... will be on his way to the airport for the first flight home with his international career over.

"Saffers crushing the Unrepentant Cheats despite the chief Cry Boy's tear-jerking attempt to have his dismissal overturned. Boo fucking hoo, Smithers... Do you think they might re-name one of the Big Bash sides as the Unrepentant Cheats?"

70-6. A pretty humiliating run chase so far for the cheating convicts.

I see after yesterdays double header they have gone back to one game a day .... YAWN Pakistan chasing down 345 with about 10 balls to spare was as near to a close game so far. And that was by 6 wickets so a bit of a cruise at the end

NZ have made and LOST the last two finals so SHOULD be in the mix. Unbeaten in 2015 until the match fixer McCullum had his stumps rearranged in the first over of the final and they fell apart. Not sure how they lost in 2019 but have the knack of choking from anywhere. Think they will make the semi finals but maybe no further Quite like the fact that they and S Africa have never won so hopefully will continue. England will go deep as M Mott attempts to win another white ball tournament and go past Lord Trevor Bayliss 2 to 1 but suspect India will QUEER them with a dodgy pitch at some point An India v Pakistan final would be immense Australia still have their middle order problems and selecting ONE specialist spinner after Agar was injured was mental. I'd have brought Lyon or Murphy in. Need to beat SA on Thursday or they are behind the eight ball at 0-2

"If England don't win it (they won't), I'd favour New Zealand. Would really piss off the convicts and be a great double with Australia, not even getting of of their rugby world cup group."

Record World Cup chase of 345 by Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka I almost (ALMOST) want Pakistan to win this to wind up the Indians

I dont mind the everyone playing everyone format as long as there are reserve days to make all the games happen. Think there are 2 games today but needed to do this from the start to GET ON WITH IT. Also wary of India's pitch fixing ... imagine the groundsmen will be told not to give England any more pitches like todays which favours the quicks and if they meet India later they will get one like the pitch served up for India v Australia which was prepared in Jadeja's back garden

"England at least doing better today. RE: format. It is a bit of a pain but at least everyone plays everyone else once and it's fair, and it gives the lesser nations more opportunity to play everyone which can only be good. There would be just as many dead rubbers in a group format when there's a huge disparity between all nations competing. Look at the RWC for example."

"The format is all wrong. One group pf 10, 9 games, then semis and final. Far too drawn out and will inevitably be some dead rubbers. Should be 2 groups of 5, then semi finals. Shorter and each group game, will have much more bearing on the group outcome."

"Come On You Irons 9:15 Mon Oct 9 Agreed. In India there's a fair amount of embarrassment over low crowds, particularly at the Modi stadium in Ahmedabad for NZ v England. It looked pathetically empty."

"This World Cup has been awful so far. Empty stadia, awful pitches and outfields and dull, one sided games. Boring."

"Just don't see England doing a huge amount in this world cup, unless Stokes gets fit and catches fire. Little momentum, bang average captain this time around (Buttler is a fine one-day batsman, but not a strong cricket brain like Morgan was), and some blunt (on those pitches) medium pace and spin. Not sure Buttler insisting Wood just bangs the ball in short in India is going to get them far. They'll improve, England, as they get used to the conditions. But this is unlikely to be their tournament. Rashid is going to be important: he needs to find his best white-ball form, or opponents will always have too many wickets in the tank. Moeen, too. The spinners will probably have to step up and take vital mid-innings wickets to stop momentum - but what are the chances? I like Moeen, but does he get enough revs on the ball these days? He looks like he doesn't rip it like he used to."
