When I was going down on birds I did wonder. But generally I’m happy with dying whenever I die and in the mean time enjoying myself. I did have gay mates who were distraught when their partners died.

"The response (use your hindsight) was OTT, 360. Surely that isn't even up for discussion now? That's not a crazy thing to say. It's what happened."

"Lock downs were for the middle classes. Workers worked. Lots of poor were just fucked by them. Just check out India. Anyway. If you like lock downs, save a load of money and pay for your own lock downs."

"Lee How can you say it was OTT if you dont know what the fuck is killing people? Thats just insane. Literally the equation was if say (cant remember the number now).. 1% of people will die if they are exposed, and the rate of people spread is pretty much 1:1 (i.e. if you have it you will pass it to someone you have contact with). Then you're talking about a hell of a lot of people potentially dying. And you cant conciousely say in a 1st world country with the money to ride it out, that you're just going to go all Russian roulette and let people die like that. Its insane. The reality is, a lot of us are still here. A lot of people died that could have been saved if we were more cautious than we were. and a lot of people died because social scenarios also changed (I know this personally.. and I;m gutted). But fuck me, it was a one off madness that scared the shit out of everyone. It was unprecedented. You cant say anyones response was OTT. I mean,.. thats such a crazy thing to say."

"""The fact that people were forced to take an unknown vaccine that had very little benefit was without a doubt the most vulgar part of this whole mess."" Agreed. 50 million doses were dished out in the UK for a vaccine that is now no longer available to use. If I was coerced into having it, I'd be asking loads of questions."

"Russ of the BML 6:21 Tue Nov 21 I think it's difficult to lay the majority blame with any government on this. You need to be looking at the likes of Fauci, Vallance and Whitty who were advising them."
"Re: So, we're not going to even talk about the OUTRAGIOUS covid inquiry Then?"
The fact that people were forced to take an unknown vaccine that had very little benefit was without a doubt the most vulgar part of this whole mess. The people responsible for this abuse of civil liberty should be brought up on charges. It should never be allowed to happen again.

"Re: So, we're not going to even talk about the outragious covid inquiry Then?"
Way I see it - All worlds governments were in a spin and had serious worries about the potential spread they were being informed of. Any idiot can clearly see that if a lockdown prevents or reduces spread of an air born infectious virus. It's just bloody common sense. And anyone stating that keeping people indoors and away from each other doesn't prevent or reduce spread is just being a fucking idiot. Many countries governments were lambasted by their respective media for not doing this and not doing that and not acting quick enough or jumping too soon. It was embarrassing. Now its the same media that are lambasting again with lots of evidence and data and a whole ton of hindsight. And all you get is the lefty wokey Labour lovers jumping on the ship because it was a Conservative government in power at the time. They made mistakes. All governments did. It was an unprecedented situation. I don't think any of the worlds governments can come out of it with much credence. But generally when do they ever?

"Re: So, we're not going to even talk about the OUTRAGIOUS covid inquiry Then?"
"A lot of revisionist bollocks on this. ""The NHS was never close to collapse. The nightingale hospitals were barely used."" As I said earlier, hindsight is 20/20. At the time no one actually KNEW what was happening. Everything was a guess. We had Milan and NY hospitals full of people on respirators because no one knew how to treat this condition (or the fact that for many respirators made it worse). So they thought at the time that preparing for something like that with the nightingale hospitals made sense. As the months went by they learnt more and found out they didn't need it. Thats not a bad thing. It's what sensible orgs do when faced with issues they dont quite understand but have potentially huge risks. We do it in finance/IT all the the time and doesnt deal with lives or anything like that. But we literally over prepare and put contigency everywhere. And it costs us tons. If we dont use the contingency thats fine. But for it to go wrong and not put stuff in place... thats unacceptable. Too many people in this country want to ""wing"" everything to save a buck. It's just dumb, We have a lot of money in this country. It's just spent wrongly."

"No, where health services were strained due to chronic underfunding and populations are more elderly and more vulnerable to co-morbidities, lockdowns were the absolute necessary response in the pre-vaccine and early vaccine stages. Sweden didn't need to lock down because its health service was deemed robust enough to cope with requirements."

Sweden is in Scandinavia and they didnt lock down. The rest were a mixed bag as were everyone else. Locking down just delayed the inevitable at huge cost.

"Of course it was the developed countries with the older populations that had to make the most effort to protect their health services. Those that had more robust, better equipped institutions in place could afford to take less stringent measures - the Scandinavians were best off in this respect. Here, and other places where the institutions were chronically under-funded (the reasons for that differ as Poland started from a much lower base than the UK, which in my opinion has no excuse at all for failing to fund the NHS properly), the infection and death rates, quarantine and lockdowns were much more severe. All basic stuff really."

"Hammer and Pickle 11:46 Tue Nov 21 ""I'll let you get on with that and join the normal people in the real world. Talking to them is a lot more interesting."" Speaking of normal, normally when someone posts something like that you'd expect them to leave a thread and not come back, not spend the rest of the day arguing the toss with everyone and posting paragraphs and paragraphs about stuff they apparently don't care about. *shrugs*"

Show us your data H&P. As age was such a huge part of the most at risk category countries with lots of old people with co morbidities would likely have worse outcomes than young populations.
