With our recent track record it might be better to stick with big Tom for another season despite some of his limitations.

Who knows how the Potter tenure will evolve next season but if we find ourselves in the shit again next he is one player I would rather have in the camp helping to dig us out of it.
This is the bit i struggle with, some fans acting like he is so hard to replace.  Any CM that is brave enough to get on the ball, able to pass it well and has some legs to press is an upgrade no?  Soucek doesn't really do any of those things well which is vital for a prem CM.

Say the new addition whether it be Potts or a new signing chip in with 4 or 5 goals. We have sacrificed 3 or 4 goals but should be a much better team as a result.

I love soucek and want to him to stay but I would be worried if we’re not looking to replace him as a starter next season.
I would like us to offload Alvarez, JWP. Soler and Rodriguez and get two dynamic players in there who can play as a two - as well as bringing Potts back.

Great summary. Soucek is a trade off. He hamstrings your team to an extent because there are things he cannot do which you'd want or need him to in that position, BUT he gets goals. He's won us a lot of points since he's been at the club and scored some bloody important ones.

What cannot be disputed is that he's a fantastic team mate and seems like a great bloke. Will run through brick walls and give his all, clearly his teammates love him. He's pretty much the definition of a cult hero.

We will have opportunity to develop/evolve as a team if/when he goes and he is one of only a few that has transfer value, but I'll be sad to see him leave. I expect he will have some options both in England and the continent.

He is 30 years old and his stock is probably quite high so cash in.

As said below you can't play a CM in the HOPE that they pop up with a goal when if they don't it's like playing with 10 men.  To improve we need legs and technical ability in the midfield of which he lacks both severely.

Thank you for the service but lets for once sell at the right time and improve.

Good point, nobody hates the bloke, it's more that we're annoyed and frustrated that a player of such obvious limitations is still so important to us after all this time and we won't improve on him even though it would be dead easy because there are much more urgent player appointments and positional weaknesses to address first.

He has the knack of being in the right place at the right time in each penalty box, which is invaluable.

But that's it.  He's a bit of a passenger in every other aspect.

He'd have to accept it, and I agree with you. I just think he would be one of the easier players to replace with better. Having him here means that it's not a priority position to address which shows the state of the squad.

I like him and wouldn't sell him.

He's gone through some spells where he's been pretty poor but often comes back and shows his true class.

Reminds me a bit of Noble.  What he lacks in ability, he makes up for in attitude, determination, spirit etc.

If some of the rest of our squad had the same attitude as him, I'm certain we'd be allot higher.

We don't really have a better alternative to Soucek so we shouldn't be looking to sell him, but we most definitely should be looking for a new midfielder who can do a lot more than he can. The reason he scores more goals than everyone else except Bowen is that everyone else is poor as well and we're not set up to score many goals. It's really small time to say he's vital to the team because he might contribute 8 goals. With a couple of different midfield players we would be able to set up for better attacks and counterattacks and then we wouldn't need a player like Soucek.

He doesn't really help anyone out, he's not there to protect the defence and he's not there to facilitate quick attacks on the break, but individually he's tall and has great timing so he's going to score goals. He's rightly in the team for this but it limits us a lot in other ways. The reason other more fluid players don't score more goals is because Soucek is in the team, bang in the middle, not being a playmaker.

Corrr I dont get many mentions on here, am honoured and flattered you're first thought was me. Rent free or what!

Glad he scored, if he can now up his pass completion and amount of passes to acceptable levels for a prem midfielder we would be a far better team (he was bottom in both for us yesterday of the lads who played 90....

If Moyes wants him for £20m i would still drive him there myself.  He just is not good enough to be in a holding 2 man midfield if we want to be in the top half of prem.

No one falls into any trap, it comes down to what you value most in a central midfielder, I think all round we'd be a better team and score more goals as a team as a whole if we had better footballers than him.

BTW, he doesn't play defensive midfield, he's clearly given carte blanche to maraud up front. He's great in both boxes, and if you're Moyes/Allardyce he's the perfect player, if you want your team to be a proper attacking passing team, you need better football players than a bloke who once made 8 passes in 90 minutes.

Some fans strangely fall in to a trap with Soucek expecting him to be something he'll never be. He isn’t in the Team to dictate or create, constantly looking to make passes. His primary role has always been to break up play winning the ball back cleanly, which he does better than most, then get on the end of supply to score. He's also one of the best aerially around in the game.

There's plenty of others in the Team who should be taking the responsibility for passing and it isn't a massive deal his passing isn't great, although there has been an improvement in that this season for him.

I'll never understand the constant calls to sell one of our most committed, hard working, honest prolific Defensive Midfielders. I want him to retire in 5 years time with us and go down in West Ham folklore. We'll miss him greatly when he does finally leave us.

If he has better players around him he's a luxury. He wants to score and he does. He gets thrown under a bus every fucking week cos he doesn't have the support players wise.

West Ham Premier League Top Scorers:
68  Michail Antonio (2015-Present)
54  Jarrod Bowen (2020-Present)
47  Paolo Di Canio (1999-2003)
47 Mark Noble (2005-2022)
41 Carlton Cole (2006-2015)
36  Tomas Soucek (2020-Present)

He's a sodding Defensive Midfielder, an incredible goalscoring return who's still only 30 😆

If he has a repeat of this season for next season, then he'll end up as our 3rd all time Premier League goalscorer. He scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, as well as on course for doing it again this season, so it's very possible.

The other thing to note is none of his goals come the way of Penalties, unlike all the others on the list.

I agree.
He's a weird one.
He's tough in terms of on the pitch sticking his noggin in where Soler fears to tread.
As skipper ?...can you imagine him at half time dishing out a bollocking?

You can't fault his attitude always gives 100% for the cause and seems an absolute top fella who you would enjoy sharing a beer or even a plate of potato salad with.

I hope he gets into double figures for prem goals in the next two games.

Hes too nice, dont be fooled by the constant smiling and comedy accent. Probably does hookers and coke on the sly. Kretinskys son in law ive heard.

Hes been great, fantastic attitude. For the shit season it was, a few of our players really stepped up and gave it their all. Tomas is one of them.
