Summer Transfer Window 2025 | Official Thread

Post stubbo-admin »

May as well get going with this since with Sullivan at the helm, season ticket renewals slow, and the football vacuum to commence, this will soon be all the "news" there is.

Can Potter and MacCauley pull multiple rabbits out of the hat, or will Sullivan 'try really hard' with all of them before grabbing a few aging bargains from Big Willie Salthouse?

The lad will be put on the market before he's had a chance to take the first sip of his breakfast cuppa.

Then along comes Potter..

"Lads, what the hell do you think you're doing?! We have 10 men behind the ball Drills for a reason, so stop doing skill work on the ball and give it to me, you're all fined a weeks wage"
Yep!

It will remain very much that way until we get a couple of players who offer energy and mobility in midfield that cover the ground quickly to take the constant heat off of our defenders. An actual striker with youth on his side might help the cause too.

Until then, Potter will be keeping the lines as tight as he possibly can to prevent getting stuffed like a Turkey on the counter attack. It ain't pretty and is bloody boring at the best of times but so was conceeding at least 4 goals on a regular basis at least once maybe twice a month.

Until that midfield sorted then it's not going to change in the short term.
Even when we had 1 of the very best Defensive Midfielders playing regularly for us in the world at the heart of the Team as Captain, we still stuck 10 men behind the ball. It's not just about personnel, it's also about encouraging your most skillful players to express themselves high up the pitch and for the Team in general to attack and press more.

Moyes MK II thus far doesn't give me the impression he really wants to play that way and has been a near carbon copy of what Moyes churned out apart from passing aimlessly amongst ourselves at the back more when we do get hold of the ball achieving very little. Same as what he did managing his previous Clubs as well.

The boy Ramsey obviously likes a bench. He gets to sit on a slightly colder one now. Played son.

No one on the board has or will ever invest using their own wealth and the ponzi scheme of borrowing against future TV, ticket and even transfers in revenues is exhausted.

Not fixing that midfield, the priority area is an act of self harm by Sullivan except the damage will be influcted on Potter.

Im now only foreseeing Potter in trouble by xmas and definitely gone by season end when “rinse, repeat” will occur and Sulivan brings in a survival manager again like he did with BFS, Moyes. Welcome Shaun Dyche.
I do actually think that the rest of the shareholders are playing a waiting game and letting Sullivan finally hang himself by his own ego. Yes, he's the main shareholder but he's loath to put any of his own money in so borrows against the next two seasons of TV income. This ain't anywhere near sustainable on a constant basis and the others surely know it.

So why continue subsiding his stupidity? They have seen enough and know full well that eventually we'll be begging for him to fuck off.

It all hinges on what Vanessa does with her shares but I'm not convinced that just because her old man was a business associate of Sullivan that she feels any particular loyalty towards him.

Besides if he wants to, Kretinsky can make her an offer that is far more lucrative for her shares and I'm sure Tripp Smith can surely rustle up some impressive funds through the Yank stock market/venture capitalist route.

Watch this space! I'm not convinced the dictator is here until he snuffs it.

I'm a glass half full bloke...

Potter just announced his own death sentence.  Get the lad from Lille at least because without an injection of pace and physicality in that central midfield we are highly unlikely to see any improvemeng. Potter can be removed at the end of the season without compensation but after hearing this I foresee him being gone by xmas with us in or just above the relegation zone.
It'll be Sullivan saying no if that's the case, because he can't shift any of the shit already in the squad. Not a chance that Potter actually thinks we don't need anyone.

I have a feeling Potter is going to do a Moyes with him and just not use him unless he's simply got no-one else.
Can't see that myself. Potter knows 100% that he's on very thin ice and desperately needs to improve on last season so he'll be playing whoever can help him achieve that. Absolutely no point in trying to send a message to the chairman that he needs to sign his own players when there's a very good chance that he'll be out of a job before the next transfer window. And if he gets sacked mid season there's very little hope of him getting a top flight job again for a good while, so he won't be doing any cutting his nose to spite his face.
I'm not so sure. I think the rest of the league knows the ridiculous constraints of working under Sullivan and I very much doubt he'd be out of work for long at all, to be honest. Don't forget it was a self imposed spell out of the game rather than no job offers.

And I don't think Callum Wilson is the key to improving anything whatsoever aside from the workload of the physio team. He'd have a completely valid argument it's better for the club to play Marshall over Wilson unless Wilson surprises us all massively, which he almost certainly won't. No way is he becoming our starter on merit. If Wilson is in the team, then we have serious problems- for about 20 minutes before he injures himself and spends three months out and we end up with Paqueta or Guilherme up front.

Sullivan is an utter idiot for forcing him into this club.

Is he injured already?? 🤣
More likely that he didn't play because he'd only done his first pre-season training session a few days before the match. Players normally have 1-2 weeks training before playing matches. I would have thought that he could have trained with Newcastle until he found a new club but apparently he preferred to spend the summer in the US doing media punditry for the Club World Cup 🙄. Expect him to be on the bench next weekend though.
For sure, that's why I asked if he was really injured or not. I expected him to take a while without having a proper pre-season which was laughable enough but if he was genuinely injured as well, it makes the signing more of a joke than it already was. 😂

I’m amazed no one has come in for Irving. He seems a good lad, and is definitely Championship quality at the very least. Also, I think he earns less than me, so wages shouldn’t be an issue. Baffling.
