Well if the rumours eminating from whetstone are correct. And I've got a horrible feeling they are . Lopetegui only has £60m to spend . Which is obviously an absolute joke . As much as I was Moyes out he really wasn't the clubs biggest issue . That is dwarf and his sidekick. Until there gone nothing changes.

"Can't believe some on here are happy to let Alvarez one of our best players go when we already need to 6 or 7 in as it is and we barely won a point without him last season. He's one of a handful we need to keep and build a new team around, and can do without having to replace on top of the areas we are short in. Madness!"

"Personally, there are not many players I'd be looking to sack off in this this team if we are about to start a new era under a new manager. Priority should be in strengthening a light squad and that only becomes harder if you start selling your most valuable assets. Even Cresswell has been retained for a year in order to make this transition a little easier for the new manager, which makes sense to me. Until we absolutely need to, or we get a ridiculous offer, or we finally build a big enough squad to compete, we should not really be so quick to sell anyone. Danny Ings aside."

Makes you wonder why Ten Hag didn't take him to the Mancs when he left Ajax. Personally l would love to see him stay. I think Loppy would be of the same opinion to!

"Fair Point Solid, However, ask yourself who played with him... Soucek and JWP I rest my case but point taken"

The only thing I would say is that most the team looked like they’d had a gut full of Moyesball and that the January window really showed that the club hadn’t backed Moyes so they were in for a hard slog. Then again that fits in with how I detested Moyes’s set up to play the game…..but it was strange how they ‘turned up’ for that 1st half of the Levekusen home leg…..almost like they were saying to him…..(in my best Jim Bowen) this is what you could of had…..

"It's silly stats to put up about what or what doesn't happen in games about a player to try to prove a point, didn't we not win when Paqueta didn't play for a period, yet in his last 10 games or so he was a fucking joke and his fanboys were putting up all types of ridiculous excuses for him. I'm ambivalent to if the taco stays or not, but is he irreplaceable? I think we all know the answer to that."

"Alvarez is an excellent holding midfielder who knows his role and is happy to do it, rather than someone who wants to show he’s an all singing, all dancing box to box midfielder. Sure he gets too many yellow cards but that’s the nature of the beast of playing that role for a team who never had the ball. As said, our record with him was greatly improved vs our record without him."

Some of you have VERY short memories regarding Alvarez. Our record without him playing was fucking dreadful in the league.

"I really rate Alvarez, but if we could get big money for him and replace with two players I think we should."

"I don’t rate Alvarez. Declan replacement? Nah. I’d sell him, Paqueta and our centre backs given the chance."

Alvarez limped off with what looks like a bad hamstring last night so that will probably scupper any transfer talk and put him out of preseason.

"Kelechi Iheanacho incoming Hasn’t really lived up to his hype but he is fast, strong, can dribble at pace and would suit Lopitegues system and on a free at 27yrs old he doesn’t look a bad option to have the squad"

I think you’ll find the club will decide if he has options and only if they hear the right price as he’s just a year into his contract with us. As for you deciding who’s captain material…..meh…..

"Alverez will decide his options after Copa, not captain material."

I read that after deciding to keep Ten Hag he was being offered a new contract for an extra couple of years. Surprised they didn’t go for Pochettino but he may have turned them down. Can’t see Man U getting much better in the league so he may not last the season new contract or not.

"Any rumour with Ten Hag name attached to it is bollocks. The guy is a dead man walking. Could Alvarez be sold.? Sure. This is the new West Ham.(Everyone has a price.) But Alvarez will most likely be north of £70 million. And Sir Jim and co, ain’t paying that for a manager who is unlikely be around by New year."

"RM10: Agreed about Alvarez major disappointment for me,just so weak and slow and his shooting belongs in the women’s league. And as for him playing centre back in the premier league as some have suggested is laughable he would be a liability . Wouldn’t give a shit if we sold him."

Alvarez has been one of our better players. Missed him when suspended etc. Only sell if we have a good replacement ready to buy. Do t sell if it means strengthening out direct competition

"Brazilian CDM from Fluminense, Andre who we have been linked with before, looks like he could be going to Fulham for 30m. He looks to be a fantastic player... I'd let Alvarez go for 50-60m and bring Andre in for half that. Happily have both but we will regret missing out on Andre if Fulham get him."

"10 - Yea, would echo that. I keep reading on here that Downes is a great player, so we already have his replacement if he heads north?"

"He needs to sort out his booking record, too rash at times, but reckon after a season in the Premier league he can improve Not a fair comparison but can remember that Burnley home game where Moyes played the rubbish Phillips & we were 2-0 down. Transformation when he replaced him with Alvarez who can step forward with the ball in that position Think he will be one of many who will appreciate the change of manager & do something beyond cowering in our half"
