"Been through bad time lately with suffering with this. Dark thoughts as well. I know some posters on here suffer with this. Anyone come through the other side of this shit?

"A number of posters have been yellow carded and told to stay off this thread unless they have anything constructive to add. This is a thread that has been very useful to so many, for any other posters with scores to settle, argue on another thread. This thread is sacrosant.Thank you"

"Buster 2:58 Mon May 11 Cheers B-man - this has proven to be briliant advice. Started taking it on Thursday last week (and yes, it does taste grim), and the last couple of nights I've had the soundest sleep I can remember for a long, long time"

"Magnesium is touted as a super essential nutrient, deficiency of which will cause all kinds of problems. I prefer to take it in pill form as I sometimes get that condition where the heart skips a beat occasionally. Of course I could eat better.. They say a significant percentage of people in the developed world are lacking it because of a preference for processed food."

"Joe C 5:32 Fri May 8 Magnesium. After a week of taking 10ml of this once a day I was sleeping better than ever. It tastes awful but you get used to it, just dilute in a cup of water, I take it in the morning and early evening, 5ml each time. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Good-State-Magnesium-Supplement-Digestive/dp/B005PFK3YS/"

Joe C 5:32 Fri May 8 Give zinc/ZMA tablets a try. You can get them for like 30p from most supermarkets. Superior to almost any medication and zero side effects. Also look into intermittent fasting. I sympathise as I used to *really* struggle with sleep but both these things have essentially eliminated the problem.

"Sydney - Yes, if your body really is tired you will drop of at some point. If I can get 6 hours then that's enough, even if I prefer 7. 8 hours? Haha, yea right, I only thought kids slept for 8 hours. I rarely sleep through the night and don't expect to either, usually need to get up for a piss. I find that thinking about something nice/positive while you lay there also helps you drop off."

"I tend not to sleep very well, but these days rather than worry or dwell about it I take the attitude that if my body needs sleep it will take it, and TBH I very rarely feel tired or sleepy during the day, and that attitude towards it has actually helped, wake up during the night, which is almost a given, but I just think fuck it and lay there and most nights will drift of again eventually even if it is a few hours later. Also seems to me as you get older you do need less sleep, could sleep for England when I was younger and getting out of bad before 7am was a struggle, these days im up and about by around 6am at the latest, think when you get very old you also start to sleep more, its as if you go full circle. All the best though, but as I said above, don’t worry about it; maybe you need less sleep than you think at the age and stage of life you are right now."

"Tried that mate - no effect, wake up almost three hours later on the dot no matter when I try going to sleep. Toss and turn for a while, give up, fall asleep, wake up a couple of hours later and then that's it. It'll sort itself out, will just take a few more weeks. It's almost like jetlag, and I've always suffered badly from that"

"Joe - May sound like an obvious thing to say but if you are not getting enough kip try going to bed a fair bit earlier some nights. Say your normally go to bed from 11pm - 7am and don't get enough kip, if you say hit the sack between 8-9pm I would wager you will get more kip in by the time 7am comes around."

"It's absolutely ruined my sleep coming off of them. Would easily get a good 7 hours a night, but now I'm only sleeping a couple of hours a time, interspersed with plenty of staring at the ceiling stressing about work and other inane shit. No anxiety or dark thoughts though, so all good there. Would kill for a good nights sleep though"

"Great to hear that Joe, fingers crossed for you I have to say I found they helped me a bit to start with but I found they made my head a weird combination of buzzy and foggy - like the pressure you get on a plane combined with drinking ten cans of red bull, whilst they have my stomach that feeling you get if you drink a couple of espressos on an empty stomach. Mental health is a bitch!"
