Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)

Post maverick180 »

I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Makes me laugh when the posters that say he (Sullivan) isn't a fan are convinced they are right, and the ones that think he might be (a fan) are naïve idiots, just because it suits the narrative, it's more of an edgy view, and they can't be proved wrong (or right).

I don't suppose it really matters if he's a 'fan' or not, but he went to school in Hornchurch so he would have had West Ham around him at an early age, so worse case he'll have at least an affiliation etc with the club.

"Supports West Ham"?  He was Cardiff City wasn't he? Gold was the fan.
"On the day the takeover was confirmed, an emotional Sullivan said: "It's going to take time to sink in. We've been wanting to sit here for 20 years and together we owned 27 per cent of the club 22 years ago and it's taken us 22 years to get to where want to be. Both me and David are supporters, I went to university here and I lived in Hornchurch. David lived 50 yards from the ground for 20 years of his life and played for West Ham's youth team. We just want to be here where we've always wanted to be. There is no other club we would want to be at so for us we have come home and that's what it's all about."
All of which is, of course utter spinny-bollocks.

Both were only interested in getting West Ham because they saw it  a path to getting their hands on the proposed casino that the government were considering bolting to the Olympic Stadium.

Once that opportunity evaporated they then had to bluster their way through the last 10/12 however many years it is.

If Sullivan was genuinely interested in having the club move forward he'd leave the footballing decisions to the football experts he's hired and back them without fail. He doesn't, so clearly isn't interested.
It's however you want to see it really Mike

For me he has a massive ego (which in fairness he may warrant with the money he's made) and small man syndrome and thinks he can do it better.

I struggle to believe that.

Shit owner? Yes. Too involved, thinks he knows what he's doing and doesn't.

But you'd be stupid to think a man whose made all that money and supports West Ham, is happy with just getting by in the Prem only.

Reckon he'll be more of a "fan" than whatever other owner we might have that comes in after him.

If having an owner that's a fan is import, of course.

I agree with Scum.  He's just a shit owner.

Him saying he’s West Ham is the equivalent of a person saying they’re non-binary, I.e., it’s bollocks.

Even if he is West Ham, he’s a parasite and one that Father Time is taking took long to sort out.

It should be painfully obvious to everybody now that all Sullivan wants is continued PL status - nothing more, nothing less.

He'll throw a few bob at players just to shut the fucking (ungrateful) fans up, but 38 games generating enough points to hit 17th is all he ever seeks; we're going nowhere better than that while he's pulling the strings.

And to think Steidten's pick was Hurzeler but was vetoed by Sullivan who felt he was a risk and went for experience ( old, dated methods etc ) yet again.

That said, Hurzeler was recruited using Brighton's data driven approach to ensure he was a good fit and was coming into a club that has been following a long term plan for many years and reaping the rewards.  Based on their size, their achievements are greater imo than the rich clubs that essentially buy success.

We will continue with Sullivan's reactive, short term, market trader approach and continue to fail

Re: Lopetegui

We are a couple of central midfielders short of being a upper table team imo.  A decent striker ( quick strong ) would perhaps get us near top 6.   The coach ( Loppy ) is trying to play his system ( tactics ) with an incomplete or inadequate squad.  The fact Loppy was brought in to improve the way we play is arguably his biggest problem as he cannot really resort to low block / Moyesball in games and tbf its something he would not understand anyway.  But with our slow central midfield and lacking a player like Rice who gets up and down the pitch at speed, most teams now press us and are able to pass thru and around us too easily.

But Loppy needs to find an answer. He's persisting with Paqueta who has cost us a lot of goals and only had that game at Newcastle where he got a bit more time and space in a deeper position to be effective. Soucek and Rodruiguez, Alvarez and Soler, none of them having the pace, strength or legs to dominate centrally and move the ball at pace or provide the movement.  Another coach might take a more pragmatic approach but the root cause of a lot of our problems is that the squad got so depleted and skewed towards playing Moyesball that correcting it in the last summer window meant our recruitment had to be almost perfect.   It wasnt by far.  We did not get the athleticism needed in central midfield and we bought an old, overpriced, slow striker.   Kilman we paid well over the odds for but is decent as is Todibo and our best bit of business was Wan Bassaka even though that hurts to say as it came via Sullivan and Salthouse.   Summerville is ok too.

So we will likely ditch Lopetegui but bring in another coach set up to fail this season unless we can pull of a miracle in the Jan window which has never happened.   Clubs like ours have to get recruitment right and we point to Steidten but always come back to Sullivan who is still involved and does not allow the club to be run professionally with a long term plan based on recruiting young players for the future. This season has become about staying above the relegation zone and nothing else imo.  We aint getting near Europe and Lopetegui will be replaced by Sullivan with another poor sap ( poor not in the financial sense ).

Unfortunately the Newcastle result keeps this loser in a job for a few more weeks, so we will have to endure more of the following:

West Ham 0-3 Chelsea
Tottenham 4-1 West Ham

We are not even getting close to competing against these teams, despite West Ham being 7th in the league since Guardiola took over at Man City at the start of the 2016-2017 season. Pathetic.

Get it fucking sorted fucking now, or has Sullivan bought you off on the quiet as well?

Lopetegui out now or take action. Earn your fucking corn.

Not officially a mouth piece, just a Hammers United member that has posted their emails on WHO. No idea what Hammers United would say about Lopetegui. Being patient is a personal thing for me. I have never liked not giving managers time. It's a big task we are asking Lopetegui to do. See the thread, Can we ever play passing football?:

I totally agree we should sack Lopetegui but he cannot be totally blamed for giving away 2 pens and some shit defending and especially from Kilman. Instead of  that it could have been 2-2.

Arsenal will overrun many a midfield from teams in the lower half of the table.
