The term 'must win' is often used in circumstances where it's not quite true.  Is Forest at home a must win game?  Maybe, maybe not.  But 100% it's a must not lose game.  A win puts us within touching distance of a Forest side in the aftermath of their own little managerial change honeymoon period.  A loss....and 17th place starts to look a very long way away indeed.

We go into this game with some comings and goings in the squad.  Luis Guilherme has departed for Sporting.  Callum Wilson is negotiating an exit (no doubt he sees the writing on the wall with two striker signings coming in, and the 6k basic he's on starting to look like all he'll be getting most weeks).  Pablo and Taty Castellano are now in and training with the squad, and both seemingly well known or attacking their duels and fighting hard....and my word do we need some of that.

There's been no news surrounding Todibo and Paqueta for this one.  Paqueta's being a back injury, it's feasible a spasm could have subsided with some intensive physio...but with Todibo's being a groin injury, that feels less likely to make a swift disappearance with the usual sources reporting he needed a scan, but no outcomes.

And then there is the aftermath of the Wolves debacle.  Potts and Magassa got hooked at half time.  Soucek came in and looked slow but competent.  Wilson played 90 mins and is still currently here.  Myers came on and looked a million miles better than either of the other CB proponents...but surely we won't get a start as one of a back two?!  Plus there's the two new guys. The starting line up is suddenly anyone's guess.

Predicted Line Up:

But guess I will.  This is my hunch as to what Nuno will go for:
Areola

KWP  Mavropanos  Kilman  Scarles

Soucek   Potts

Bowen   Castellanos   Fernandes

Pablo
Subs: Hermansen, Igor, Myers, Magassa, Kante, Rodriguez, Sumerville, Paqueta, Wilson

If Paqueta is fit to start, I expect Taty to move up top, Paqueta to come in on the left, and Pablo to sit on the bench.  Mavropanos and Kilman seem likely to continue their Keystone Cops impression, mostly for lack of alternatives, with Igor clearly not rated, Myers thought more of as a fullback or wide in a 3 (he's not very physically imposing yet) and Todibo likely still out.  Lastly I suspect Magassa will be made scapegoat, with Potts getting some nepo treatment (although he's been poor of late) and Soucek coming in for some 'old stager presence' and 'leadership' in the middle of the park.

Predicted Score:

After that last result, it feels impossible to predict a win.  Forest will low-block us, and have pace to burn on the flanks.  Something we clearly struggle with, but with both teams no doubt considering a defeat more damaging than anything else, I expect a cagey affair that ends in stalemate.

West Ham 1 - 1 Nottingham Forest

Is a point enough to save Nuno?  Or is 50m spent on a couple of strikers the real saving grace for the bald Portugeezer?  Time will tell.  He likely doesn't care either way.

COYI.

Pablo looked fucked after about 10 mins
thought Walker-Peters looked terrible tonight, losing the full backs to Afcon has hurt us. Taty showed endeavor but not sure he will be prolific. As said below Bowen looks unfit and not his usual sharp self. The only positive thing I can say about Nunos tenure so far is he has played some of the youngsters.

Forest were arse'ole lucky tonight, it's true. Fluke first goal, freak penalty and our goal ruled
out when a Forest player passed sideways to a West Ham player. But lets be honest here, were West Ham deserving of anything more than FUCK ALL. They are fulfilling the prediction of many of us that we are totally FUCKED, and are more deserving of the drop than any other team in this league. We have had our chances to become a big club over the last years, with home sell outs of 62,500 every home game. But we have spunked that all away. The rot started with Moyes but Loppy set the current downward spiral in motion, and nobody since has a clue about what to do. We might end up like Leeds did spending donkey's years  out of the top flight.

Pablo looked decent, good signing.

77/78 was a terrible season but at least we had players that gave a shit and we never gave up but this lot have shown nothing.

Time to rebuild and refresh and hopefully a meteorite lands on the stadium.

Speaking for myself, I’m fairly unhappy to see us lose two games in a row against two of the worst teams in the league without us barely threatening the goal in either game.

There’s absolutely no point in keeping this weirdo cսnt of a manager. He’s presided over probably the worst run of results in our history and has shown no sign of actually having a clue as to how to stop the rot.
We all know tonight was our last chance and that now we’re doomed so just bin the bloke immediately. Get in an interim manager, preferably with West Ham connections, to try and instil some pride in this squad for the remainder of the season.

This is another bonus of going down. I am quite positive about relegation. I understand the risk that we stay down or sink further. But no one is enjoy this currently. A few seasons in the championship will cheer me right up. No tourists, no VAR, cheaper tickets.

What a shit show, by 2 shit teams. And what a strange turn of events, refs fucking it up again. They should have had a corner clear as day, then we score, then they score, it should never have played out that way, what the fuck they doing, they are forensicly analysing some bits and totally missing other bits.

That was history-defining shit from West Ham.

No exaggeration, this lot are as bad as any West Ham side, and squad, I’ve ever seen. The sides relegated under Grant, Roeder, Bonds and Lyall were no worse than this lot.

They are dismal beyond belief. Even Bowen was poor tonight. He played like the team’s situation is getting to him.

Bowen aside, I honestly wouldn’t miss any of them if they stopped playing for us tomorrow. In fact, many of them play like they’ve stopped playing professional football anyway.

Didnt deserve to win but didnt deserve to lose imo

But the team and squad arent good enough for the PL.  2 new lads aint world beaters we knew that. Hard workers so hope we keep them for next season in the Championship.

The issue of pace / speed and physicality undoes us every game. Tonight Bowen really misfired.

Accepting we are down really, the positives were Todibo but he will move on next season, Scarles and Mayers did well and some others like Fernandes, Pablo wotked hard as did Soucek but ultimately we are not strong enough. Another manager might get more out of this lot but dont bet on it.

Every team dominates possession against us but Forest, like Fulham and Brighton didnt really create much. In the end its defending set pieces that were our undoing once again.

I suspected a loss as everything tends to go against you once the downward spiral gets going and we’ve been in one, in the league, since 2022 if truth is told.

We are stuck with Sullivan now. He wont sell once we are relegated

3 shots on target.

what an abysmal side.

There’s some poor and average players in there,,players who shouldn’t be anywhere near West Ham, but the way the last few managers have set us up is appalling. We lack any attacking intention or nous

Thought we got mugged off there, we weren't good but we deserved better than to lose. That offside about quarter of an hour before the goal is baffling when you compare it with the handball Brighton did before scoring a phase later. Areola is a fucking idiot and was half hour late coming for that cross, another idiotic mistake.

I've seen enough of Summerville to see he's fucking terrible and needs dropping. Taty and Pablo looked OK but didn't get any ball. Both young fullbacks dont want to he ball, they actively hide from it and when they do get it, it's fucking backwards sideways shit.

Proper sick of these cunts.

Nuno getting sacked or what? That team is clueless.
